Tattoos, Butts, and Half Breeds...

The races are intermixable, but it's not something that's totally accepted. I don't remember where it was and it might even been on the old 1.0 forum, but there was a lengthy discussion on the Races.
I seem to recall at some point there was a statement that all the spoken races were technically human, with the various differences caused by aetheric and other magical influences. While that might have been revised since ARR.

And if you think that sounds weird I point you to the various dragons we have in HW that are not only all part of the same race but technically part of the same family that all look drastically different.

As of now we have to accept that as the answer until it is confirmed with the new lore. So it is possible, but due to the culture and chromosomes (Which I am assuming) of races being vastly different in appearance, the off spring surviving is a rarity.

Whenever this topic comes up in other MMORPGs, I question it. My first response is no.. because what do they add?

FFXIV is a bit unique. Races don't have anything to them except aesthetics. And after seeing Hilda in the story, I though half-elezens looked great. And I'd probably would play one if I could. I like the features of the Elezen and Hyur, but I pick Hyur because the wide shoulders on the elezen make them look too gangly (like FFI and FFIV dark elf). Hilda doesn't have that issue. So I'd get the best of both worlds.

But of course the elephant in the room is... which half breeds do they do? Just half-elezen? Just Hyur-X combinations (that alone is another 5 races in itself)? If you do one, or a few. Someone's gonna want something crazy.

My take, do just the Hyur/Elezen combo. It's at least popular on its own merit to warrant a new race (its rare to see half elves not appear in fantasy where elves have a presence, and they are played by quite a number). The other combinations wouldn't get enough attention to be worth the effort.

The only race I can see being able to crossbreed with everyone would be Hyur and the result, if Hilda is anything to go by, would just be a watered down version of whatever the non Hyur parent is. Why do people want boring versions of what we already have? >>;

I was thinking the same thing after the post. Some races share a genetic resumblence, but the majority are extreamly different. Some are genetically small (lalafel) and some are genetically muscular and tall (roegayden). These are totally different subkingdoms. Like primates and homos.

This was challenge with Au Ra in Heavensward, due to their speculation of being Hyur and Dragon, but was disproven at the end of the Alexander Arc.

It also wouldn't be much different from Miqotes really. Miqotes are essentially just humans with cat ears and a tail. Hyur/Elezen hybrids would be humans with elf ears. That one small difference shouldn't make something boring that wasn't before.

I agree that Miqote are already hyur like, Female Au Ra too. Spirit gumming small elf ears on a hyur and calling it a day? Incredibly boring.
