Normally I'd say I have no reason to disbelieve your claims. Mentors can be jerks just like anybody else, the difference is they're held to a higher account than other players. However, we're given little to no context beyond "he was kicked...BY A MENTOR!" That the mentor part *is* the emphasis reeks to me of desire for attention and rallying against something people generally have misgivings about.

Even if I had no reason to disbelieve you, I don't know what happened really, nor what it is you're hoping to accomplish. Reporting the person in question will get you farther than coming to the forums ever will. However, assuming you do want *something* of the forums...we need to know what happened, precisely.

This is seriously getting stupid. I get cramps on my fingers typing strategies while running dungeons, over and over again, as do so many other mentors out there. We welcome the new players in the novice network and tell them for about 86 times per day that they need to be level 20 to get their chocobo. We answer any doubt, provide useful tips and explain the customs and etiquette, and we're all volunteers and happy do to so. Most of us have been doing that since long before the system was even introduced and will keep doing this. So please stop dragging everyone's name through the mud, you have no idea how infuriating that is.

You had a bad experience with a shitty person that doesn't deserve to be a mentor? REPORT THEM. We get such a scaring warning when we accept the mentorship status that some of us are afraid to lose it if they're caught in a dungeon with their icon on on a bad day. Meanwhile people like you let pieces of shit like those walk all over you and instead of reporting them come complain about it in the forums. Report them, they'll lose their mentor status and their precious crown. Keep doing that until there's no more crowned a**holes around. Problem solved.

Tried to do the weekly dun scaith run with two of my friends last week. We wiped at the queen and all my friend said after that was: "Can the tank from group C be MT please? Your ilvl is higher than that of our tank." Apparently that was enough of a reason for people to vote kick him, mentors were among those people as well. I'm not saying that mentors or players in general have to be saints and tolerate everything, but seriously... Needless to say my friend was pissed, so was I and I didn't try to hide it. Wanted to call them out in the group chat, but of course everyone remained silent, so I willingly left the raid right after. We have had our fair amount of this stuff happening and it only seems to get worse, doesn't surprise me that we hardly do content with random players anymore.

So what if there was a mentor in the party they could of said no. It only takes an extra 3 people to agree with the person who initiated the kick.

I don't think the point is to bash all mentors, it's that if you are a mentor maybe you should not even be allowed to initiate vote kick or abandon, for one. There are quite a few mentors doing the mentoring *only* to get their mount. I have never been the target of one, but I seen some be complete [bleep]s to players that don't know the mechanics.

Seriously, as I've said in other threads, incidents like this do not mean that the Mentor system is a bad thing. It just means that bad people are capable of becoming Mentors. You can put whatever requirements for Mentorship you like, and bad people will STILL slip in from time to time. Or even just otherwise decent people who happen to be having a bad day. There are mechanisms for removing Mentor status from bad Mentors specifically for this reason. I can't say how effective GMs are at enforcing these mechanisms because they, rightly, do not share that information but report the bad Mentors anyway. Even if their Mentorship isn't removed immediately, enough strikes against them and a GM is eventually bound to take notice.

Let's throw the baby out with the bathwater! And the bath, too. And the house while we're at it. I've seen FAR more instances of Mentors being helpful than I've seen them being abusive. Don't take forum reports to indicate a trend: folks don't come here to report that they've had a perfectly ordinary day, or even a great day. They come here to complain. If someone comes to the forums to talk about Mentors, it's generally because they've had a bad experience with one.

Your friend was vote kicked by a mentor and at least three other people, so why do you only call the mentor out? Why don't you just call it "abuse of the vote kick system!" instead? Sounds like you care more about expressing your grudge against mentors than about what actually happened to your friend...

Likewise, there are plenty of good reasons for mentors to have the vote kick ability and plenty of newer players who do things worthy of being vote kicked.

Does abuse happen? Definitely. Does it suck to have it happen to you? Obviously. But does that inherently mean that mentors are all elitist jerks who are out to abuse every new player they see? No. That's ridiculous.

Most people will get kicked at least once in their playing. Your friend didn't know the fight, likely wiped the entire raid (possibly more than once), and was probably removed for that reason. It happens. Now that your friend has had the mechanics explained, I doubt they will be kicked again. That's just day-to-day life in FFXIV, not an unforgivable crime against humanity.
