Tank asks again. Cue a second long, awkward silence. Feeling nervous at this point and noticing the smattering of highlighted Ds and Fs, I use auto-translate to ask if anyone speaks English. Only one responds.

Great. Despite a fluent German speaker among us and repeated auto-translate, communication stagnated after this, so the rest of us eventually decided to just give it a shot. As long as we stick signs on, they should follow, right? (The naivety!) We start. All

@Vidu, For getting those random people that seem not be skilled, did they happen to be one job 50+ while the other is is 15 that unlocks the job? There is a lot of rush levelers lately that got no clue how to play

Some were, some werent - the SMN in question had their WHM (or BLM?) up to level 60. But I've seen all sorts of things - and I'm generally relativly patient and understanding when it comes to the whole "learn how to play"-blabla. I even tried to offer that SMN a few tips - using autotranslate, because, well, I dont speak french... but nothing, just nothing. I've seen level 60 dragoons in level 60 content not using heavy thrust (we dont even talk about blood of the dragon!), ninjas without huton (or a stance, to begin with) and I've tried to forget an aweful lot to protect my poor little brain - I have no idea how I could use the DF on a daily basis for my roulettes at somepoint...

I feel like sharing my first mentor roulette experience because it was lovely. Cutters cry. I healed (on SCH), there was a reasonably experienced tank (WAR) and 2 new SMNs.

Everything went really nicely, not the very fastest run but y'know, both DPS were new. They listened and accepted all tips, tank took reasonably sized pulls and used CDs properly then waited for me to explain each boss in turn. One point i noticed there were 3 bio 2, 3miasma but only 2 bios on a mob, politely informed the summoners i wasn't sure who it was but bio 2 should be used as well as bio 1, not to replace it. 3 seconds later, up pops that extra bio!

Went in expecting a no comms angerfest from what people had told me, got one of the nicest runs i've ever had. Wanted to commend all 3 but it had to go to the tank for waiting and being patient. I got all 3 of theirs though.

Sooooo... these and similar stories have me concerned about using DF and doing group content. I started FFXIV last spring whem I had some downtime, tried the free trial, had a great time. In 2 1/2 months got WHM and SCH to 60 without rushing, just having fun doing content. SCH has only 201 i-level, think WHM is more like 150.

Yeah these are the worst stories but they seem harsher and more frequent than the last time I played. Wonder if cross-world parties have a hand in that. I am out of practice and maybe was a 5/10 on skill level *before* I left. Tried the game again recently but stick to things like beast tribe quests. I do miss the main story though. Left off after that one character got possessed in the HW storyline. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet eventually.

Omi, don't be concerned. This thread is for the standout bad experiences; it's where people come to complain. The majority of my duty finder experiences have ranged from pleasant to unremarkable, with a few "ehhhh" without being actually bad.

If you're nervous and you don't have a lot of support on your server such as friends, linkshells, or an FC, I recommend putting up a party finder asking for experienced, patient people willing to help out a returning player for duties. We've got returning players in our FC. As experienced players we're more patient with them and make it one of our objectives to give them as painless an experience as possible.

You can also just let the party know, up front, you're a returning player. As long as people see you trying your best, and taking tips with some grace, they are willing to give you grace in return.

All depends. If you think about it, how many runs do we do weekly? I probably do a minimum of 2 daily, but it's usually closer to 4 or 5. I've only felt the urge to rant on here maybe twice last month. Out of roughly 80+ DF runs, 2 bad ones is pretty good. <3 Also have to take into account the people posting on here. It's not the same person getting a string of terrible runs, it's just lots of different people talking about a couple bad experiences. It hasn't become "worse," there's just more people posting on the thread is all.

Did DS for weekly. Was told to shut up in alliance chat for asking which alliance would go into the gate at the end. But then in party chat the party was super supportive and great. We decided we'd do it in the end. The party chat was really fun. People were cracking jokes and making general fun banter but the alliance chat was pretty negative.

No wipes though. /shrug

Is it not okay to ask about that before the fight?

That's what I'm hoping. I don't have a thin skin, but I dread making the group take forever on bad runs while still getting up to speed or getting booted by an impatient tank who wears the wrong armor and pulls the whole dungeon without using cool-downs because I let him die

I am starting to get comfortable with the pacing and controls again while doing solo stuff, so look for me to be featured here soon in a "bad healer" story

My fiance and I have been doing that as either one of the 3 healers. We havent been kicked yet.
