I'll stay. \o/ I enjoy the current content (I take a break from the grind every once in a while to just play around so I don't burn out on it), but even if I didn't, there's more in the game for me than just... well, the game. I have a lot of friends I've met through here, and I couldn't bring myself to lose contact with them. If it's getting too tedious, we just have a chill night running leveling roulette (with new classes none of us know how to play LOL). Or go fishing and sh*tpost in the LS chat.

@the people who want SE to shake the formula up:
What is it that you want SE to actually do?
'Cause I don't know of any mmo that changes up its content updates drastically over expansions. ._.

I'll keep playing. I quite like how it is now. People talk bout running out of things to do on day one, but I find myself stress out because I just can't decide what I should do on a daily basis.

Create an alternate way of progression that doesn't rely on tomestone.

And there is an ultra-easy way...make ex-dungeon gear the same ilvl as the uncapped matching tomestone (So, Neverreap and Fractal would drop i170 gear, Antitower/Amdapor would drop i200 and Xelphatol/Gubal would drop i230). This way, you wouldn't have to do roulettes if you don't like them, and could still unlock every content step by step.

Considering they said they wanted dungeons to be "challenging" I think it would be fair, especially since you can earn tomestones by doing beast tribe quests and tackling really low level content in a roulette.

At one point, they talked about choosing a low level gear and increasing its ilvl little by little to make it on par with higher gear, that's also a way...as long as it doesn't cost tomestones...

And just to be clear : Tome farming can stay there for those who like this method. I just think it doesn't have to be the only way.

i'll only play for the free 1 month included with the expansion, unless there's improvements. then i'll play during free log-in weekends; i already spent 600+ dollars in game and subscriptions, for predictable copy-paste content, and it's not worth it.
I also spent some 2-3 years (actual game time) playing, and don't want to waste any more time on useless tome/gear grinds, that are obsolete in the next patch, then rinse and repeat.

I know it's impopular but I would like to remind ppl that diadem was supposed to be one alternative to tome grinding since they planned to release multiple zones for it, however they pushed it back due to poor reception as we should remember that changes are always a risk, personally I think that if the entry ilvl was say 142(end of HW story dungeon) that place would have had a different fate.

I never entered Diadem for anything other that gathering so I won't voice my opinion on its quality. But I see two problems with it. First, Diadem was only released in 3.1. meaning that tome gear was still mandatory if you wanted to do Gordias normal when it was released. Second, it's a very convoluted way of creating alternate gear...considering that dungeon gear is still useless. Why is this gear meaningless in content progression ?

That te-e-echnically already exists - crafted gear primarily relies on gil. This patch it even gets up to i250, which is on par with the normal raid gear, but even before it could get you by (though admittedly, they didn't add weapons until recently - but fully decked in i180 with an i160 baldur weapon would still get you into Gordias)

If just being rid of tomestones in your life is all you want, there's your way. It's already in.

On a more delayed method, you can also go via wolf marks. The 180 gear is available from i150 on (achievable with vendor and dungeon gear) and gets you to Void Ark and Gordias NM. Then you just have to wait for the respective sets to come out to gain entry into Midas and Weeping City as well as Creator with it, from where you can engage in any content at i250 - you could probably even start savage. It's super slow, but also doesn't use tomes if you're tomophobic. And it's already in the game as well.

Honestly, though? Considering tomestones are a fairly generic currency you get for nearly all endgame content (PvP, Trials, Raids, Dungeons, Beast Tribes, Hunts...even PotD gives some), I find no harm in having them a mandatory part of progression to "some" degree. They get thrown at you anyway, might as well use them. My only gripe is the huge discrepancy in time efficiency between expert roulette and all other options when it comes to the capped tomes.

We'll see, I've been playing a little over a year now and decided to play something else till Stormblood comes out. I'll definetly buy Stormblood, but the staying part depends on how interesting it's gonna be.
I honestly don't think I'd like for it to be a complete reskin of the content right now, and I really don't like how gear progression works, it changes too fast in my opinion. Outgearing content so fast makes it increadibly boring. Easy to farm but boring.
The combat in FFXIV is the best I've played in any mmo and that's my main reason for staying, coming back, and missing it while I'm gone. I'm really looking forward to new classes (even though no new tank/healer) and changes to old ones. That's gonna keep me entertained at least until everything is at 70.

Right now reasons for staying:Combat system, graphics and some older fights and dungeons.

Reasons for leaving:Gear progression, Cash Shop and boring dungeons and quests.
