Well I don't know if you've been reading the patch notes, but SE has made several attempts at fixing the server issues with little affect. Now they are breaking out the big guns to fix the problem. Honestly, we can't ask for more. If there were an easier fix, it would have been done already. Welcome to the world of software development.

Of the 5 MMOs I have played since none (other than FFXIV) have had this issue NEARLY to the extent the 2 SE MMOs I have played have.

Maybe it wasnt an issue that bothered you guys in FFXI but it still existed.

So if you feel it wasnt a major issue until FFXIV then fine lets roll with that. So if you guys want to view this as an FFXIV exclusive issue then its been a major issue for somewhere between 3 and 6 years.

Let that sink in. SE this huge corporation, gaming GIANT has had this major problem for the last 3-6 years AND not only is it not fixed we can only HOPE it will be fixed a year from now.

The ball has been dropped, not only dropped but abandoned for 3-6 years +1 +maybe more if they they dont get it right for 2.0s release.

I am happy for you guys who have tons of faith in SE. I think Yoshi has made some strides in the right direction so I think its possible he will fix what needs to be fixed. However Yoshi's addition of auto attack made combat completely boring and unfun for me so forgive me if I dont have 100% blind faith in him.
Tony Montana you are awesome!

So... you never get hit by things you shouldn't because of the animation lag? You're apparently one of the few. It's really one of the most common complaints about the fight, right up there with the stupid loot distribution.

The people I've seen that get hit by Eruption literally stay there for way too long, while I'm shouting for them to move on vent. I get hit when I'm animation-locked because I'm casting a spell.

And the question is, how would you know if they have already moved or not in actuality? It's hard to tell... you know, because of this exact issue.

Prime example:

Look where he is standing when the attack goes off...

Because mostly it's the LNC still doing his ridiculously long WS even after I told him to use WSs AFTER Iffy has done an ability.

Though for sure, once in a while there is animation lag, I can give you that, it does not account for how often I've died in this battle.

The fact is, it does affect gameplay... to say that it doesn't is silly. Even down to the simplest things like dodging a dodo's breath moves. This matters.
That's the actual point, and the reason I brought up the Ifrit fight is that it's so easy to see it there.

Sometimes, when very silly original server programmers do a piss-poor job of writing servers, it takes an actual complete overhaul of the game to bring the spec in line with stuff like "we want positioning-based battles to be important, gameplay-wise" and "we want to be able to implement PvP".

And then sometimes, you bring in an entire huge development team that actually knows what they're doing with respect to server/client programming to actually implement it!

There's absolutely no excuse for the original game's issues, but to say "because 1.0's server/client model still sucks, after minor optimisation tweaks, which actually have made a huge difference but not enough to make stuff like the Ifrit fight not be retarded, 2.0's server/client model will also suck, despite the fact that Yoshida has gone on record saying it's a priority" is basically like saying you expect the development team to build an award-winning skyscraper on top of a literal hill of squishy excrement or something, and because they can't do that, you don't expect them to be able to build on a stable foundation.

Hammer ===> Nail

Anyone suggesting that this is an easy fix, quite obviously has no understanding of software development. End of conversation.

-Have you ever been running throughout town, and seen a character(or enemy) in front of you jump into the ceiling or through walls?
-Have you ever attempted to heal somebody running next to you, only to be told they're out of range?
-Have you ever seen an enemy go Red with nobody in sight, only to see a party member run up 5 seconds later and attack with a melee strike?
-Have you ever done DH and seen one of the Eyes charge up their stationary AoE far away from you, then proceed to watch it 'glide' along the floor while charging until its right on top of you?
-Or, perhaps, experienced something like this?

*http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIJCQs-R7X4 * (I thought they added youtube embedding? :/ )

An extremely simple video that I think adequately shows the very root of the problem. While the video itself may seem 'trivial', rest assured the cause behind it is the same as in all the above examples.

I am, of course, talking about the horrid Server/Client relationship in Eorzea. These things happen to a very small extent in any online game, but to nowhere near the extremity of in FFXIV. All frustrating occurrences to say the least, and I think I'm being pretty kind phrasing it that way.

I've given nearly a year of leeway waiting for this to be fixed. It's crippling to all facets of gameplay, and quite frankly it's pretty darn embarrassing. All the content in the world won't make the game enjoyable if this has to be tolerated, and I shudder to think of the amplified effects it will have when we're moving at Chocobo speeds.

Every patch we hear about the 'server upgrades/optimizations', when are you going to get to the one that truly matters?
And they plan on charging people for this game? lolwat
