I wouldn't be surprised if the Songbirds are based on Idolm@ster consider how popular that series is in Japan.

Indeed. As it should be, if you've ever watched it then Masha should remind you of someone who's story can tear your heart out.

One thing I will never understand is Bandai's reluctance to bring Idolm@ster games to the West. The PS3 game "The Idolmaster 2" sold crazy well in japan and a certain well known importer must have sold 1000s (perhaps 10's of 1000s) of copies in the west - to the point where the entire game received a fan translation and strategy guide in multiple languages - though the translation was not a game patch it was in the guide itself.

I guess some JP game/entertainment companies still think that there is no western audience for their material, they are very wrong IMHO. With Idolm@ster, subtitles are 100% the way to go to preserve the original voices and of course songs.

Thankfully SE agrees with me and FFXIV ships with Japanese audio and English sub-titles if that is how you wish to play (as I do). The English voices sound so wrong, and rarely convey the emotions that the original Japanese voice actors manage to illicit.
