Am i really forced to play tank?

hey there, im new to this game.

We started playing a few days ago and now we seem to have a problem.

We started as Marauder, Rogue and Lancer but i got so bored of Marauder, so i switched to Arcanist, i really like the Arcanist but later we where supposed to do a Dungeon via Duty Finder.

Problem is Arcanist is counted as DPS and we cant go 3 DPS, the Story quest wants us to that Dungeon...

Do i really have to play Marauder?
Is there some way around that? I dont really get why Arcanist is counted as DPS...
i mean Warrior looks cool and all but Marauder itself is way too boring for me.

if you get a fourth play say a healer , yea sure you guys can go in one healer three dps but that only will last so long because dungeons have to have a tank in them are you will die. but arcanist also can be a dps or a healer at level 30, but if its three of you somebodys gona have to be a tank of healer if yal plan on doing all the dungeons together.

Level to 30 separately, then unlock Scholar for your Arcanist and join your friends as a healer.

When you join a duty (dungeons, trials, etc), be it alone or with friends, you have to respect the needed roles:

1 tank, 1 healer, 2 DPS in all 4-man duties
2 tanks, 2 healers, 4 DPS in most 8-man duties
1 tank, 2 healers, 5 DPS in a few specific 8-man duties

However, if you go in a duty with a light party (4 people, in a duty that is done with four players), or a full party (8 people, in a duty that is done with eight people), the group can be any disciple of war/magic classes without any role restrictions. You could go as three DPS (arcanist, rogue, lancer) if you can find a healer person to accompany you guys. A healer would be far more important than a tank, and early game dungeons are "easy" enough that you don't "need" a tank (although a healer is pretty much always "needed"). If you are patient, you can most certainly find a benevolent person ready to help you guys out using the party finder and asking for a healer to run the dungeon with you.

As pointed out above, arcanist has two job advancements at level 30: summoner (DPS) and scholar (healer). While it may be difficult right now, you may end up being the group healer and get to party with your friends just fine by level 30, so that is also a valid option.

It can be frustrating yet is always nice to have one of each role. Sometimes I team up with others and we rotate tank roles and healing roles. Over all it's good to have 1 of each TANK / DPS/ HLR just to eithe rhelp out or faster queues. You don't have to, yet it helps speed up things. That or look for party finder, now is cross server so should be somewhat faster as well.

Sorry to say, but if you want to all play together one of you is going to have to change. It doesn't have to be you, and it doesn't have to be to tank (one could change to healer), but 3 DPS makes for an unbalanced party. While you COULD go through the earliest dungeons without a tank, sooner or later you'll start facing things that require it.

If your long term plans are to become a Scholar (I'm assuming you were hoping to heal your friends as Arcanist from the wording) you could park your Arcanist for now and do the dungeon as Conjurer (mini White Mage), which won't take long to level back up for the minimum.

The reason being that Conjurer gives some excellent cross class abilities you'll really enjoy on your Scholar later on (as well as your Arcanist in the meantime) so it's two birds with one stone. Black Mage has a really good cross class ability too amongst its offerings but CNJ will solve the immediate problem, and you actually need a level 15 Conjurer to unlock Scholar anyway when your Arcanist is high enough level

Many classes unfortunately are boring until you unlock the job, trust me i was the same with Maurader but once you get Warrior, you may not go to other tank jobs

We decided that every dungeon someone does it with a random party until we hit 30.
Now im trying to become a Scholar ^^
