Seeing that dragoon will be released well before the pet system, I highly doubt wyvern will be included.
This makes me incredibly disappointed. I'm not confident my attention can be held over til 2013 for a pet class.
Although I never considered dragoon in XI to be a pet class personally. My wyvern was an extension of my own character in that role, and therefore I've become extremely attached to the play concept.
I hope dragoon has a storyline and lore far removed from the Wood Wailers of Gridania. I never understood why lancer was tied to a deep forest dwelling city. Being the largest weapon in the game, it just seems extremely awkward and impractical to try to use if you're wedged between thick wood. Like the Seinfeld episode where George's father and Kramer try to play a game of pool in a tiny bedroom.
(Might be showing my age a bit there ^^
Also, the mounted Ishgardian knights are aptly named dragoons in their npc titles. I know this is the correct, traditional sense of a "dragoon" but will those npc names change once the final fantasy dragoon is released to avoid confusion?
I loved my DRG in XI, but I would still rather only have Jump combined with breath attacks or Freya's dragon magic in IX. I had some nice adventures with my little buddy Hien, but those can stay in XI, I want to see something new for the class.
They have to do something like the player doing breath attacks if they dont add a pet (which i dont think will happen) In FFXI having that wyvern was one of the main reasons you stood out from being just a warrior or samurai with a lance and a few jumps.
As long as its more then lancer with added jumps, im ok with it, they just need to be creative with the jobs, most of them so far are pretty much what their class versions are.
pug to mnk, aside from chi blast and counter there is not much different there
mrd to war, war can use most weapons, but of course this game goes against that, so i have no clue what will make it stand out.
the rest you can seem them much more refined in roles, so they are easier to see.
Yeah, so far seems like just classes in pretty costumes. They have to do something like the player doing breath attacks if they dont add a pet (which i dont think will happen) In FFXI having that wyvern was one of the main reasons you stood out from being just a warrior or samurai with a lance and a few jumps.

Like others already said, the wyvern companion is not really a "Dragoon trademark" in the series and the current lore pretty much nullifies that possibility. Of course they can just change it, most jobs already butcher the lore anyways.
However, I do think it's far more likely we will get Jumps + Freya + Reis, and in fact, I hope it's like that.
I have no idea how they're going to cram white and black mages into the lore. They're just not supported at all.Like others already said, the wyvern companion is not really a "Dragoon trademark" in the series and the current lore pretty much nullifies that possibility. uhhh, your really using ffxi as the standard huh? well never the less, monk has had many incarnations with many different focuses, they had yang whose main ability was to kick every thing in the battle, and high hp, tactics which focused on counters/evasion and chakra, sabin of ff6/3 which had a plethora of special moves similar to your average action game. Essentially i wouldnt just think about these classes and compare them with ffxi, its only 1 of many ff series, and almost all the jobs have differences throughout. They have to do something like the player doing breath attacks if they dont add a pet (which i dont think will happen) In FFXI having that wyvern was one of the main reasons you stood out from being just a warrior or samurai with a lance and a few jumps.

Also, jobs are supposed to be fairly similar to the class they come from, but with a specialized style.
drg doesnt need a wyvern, however, they may one day add pets as an option for more than one class, maybe then you ll get your wyvern.
It is actually very odd that dragoon even had a pet wyvern in xi. The dragoon job is after all, dragon killers. They kill dragons and steal their abilithies, thats what they do.
The way I sorta see it, jobs will be tied to the company efforts, based on something from the past companies. Something like "Well, gladiators are pretty good with the sword and shield, and in the past there was those brave warriors called Paladins that aided the companies of old. Maybe we can study their ways and teach them to the current adventurers" *quests ensues* "BOOM YOU NOW ARE A PALADIN!"
