Got kicked from The Aetherochemical Research Facility by mentor

This dungeon is mandatory to complete the heavensward MSQ so I queued for it. First time doing this dungeon. During the dungeon run a mentor told 'pull all'. But I took it slow and steady. He repeatedly spam 'pull all' and then when we reach the first boss the mentor told 'I don't want to be rude but...' and then I got kicked from the dungeon. So I queued for a second time. Luckily I am a tank so I got instant group. This time the run went ok and then when we reach the first boss I said 'I am new to this dungeon... any tactics for this boss?' but nobody said anything including the mentor dragoon. I pulled the boss and sadly we wiped and then I got vote kicked again.

I was very depressed by all these. I thought the FFXIV community are friendly people. I gave one last try and queued again. Surprisingly this time the run went very smoothly and the group was very friendly.

But all these left a very bad taste in my mouth. Is being a new player in mmorpgs a crime nowadays?

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience - especially in a storydungeon.
There are several problems here - first of all, people are rude bastards. Second: SE was so super clever to make this dungeon one of the fastest ways to get tomes, that are needed in ungodly amounts for progression later. And third: being a mentor mostly means nothing...

So again, I'm sorry you had to go through this! Dont let it get to you - and if you want to: Find me on Odin, seeing you're on my server and ask for help anytime you want!
I'd like to prove to you that mentors can also be nice people and actualy trying to be helpful! So feel free to add me as a friend if you want to! Always nice seeing a fellow FemRoe too!

It's not a crime to be new - There are unfortunately players that feel they're entitled for "fast" pulls and "mentors" who wear the status as a symbol and don't do anything meaningful with their crown.

Don't get discouraged however. FFXIV has some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet in an MMO. Unfortunately, the community can also be fairly bipolar as it also has some of the most unsavory players I've ever met in an MMO before too, sadly :/

Not at all but those mentor crowns should be removed from those type of players as they contradict what a mentor should be.

Everyone expect to play by the common play style and that sadly is Tanks doing big pulls. If I ever got a tank that dose small pulls that it's fine. It's not a crime and a thing that should be respected by the other members of the party. As long as you do your basic duties then it's fine.

Does bear one question here. How do you wipe to the first boss? I could see the third getting people because of the AoE spam, or maybe the second because some people haven't done Coil. The first boss is pretty much a tank and spank with a slight add check.To kick a tank when it's the job of the DPS to nuke said adds? Something seems off.

In general the community is nice. You just had the bad luck of meeting some inconsiderate people. You'll get those more often then you'd like. Try not to take it too personally, take solace in the fact that you probably got into a group faster than they were able to replace you.

You did nothing wrong.
The other players you encountered used Duty Finder, and using Duty Finder means accepting meeting new players and / or bad players.
You, as a tank, determine the pace of the run. You tried to explain your situation and were met with ignorance.
Don't let this discourage you.

Also, Aetheroblablabla (ARF) is often used for Lore tomestone farming, that's why they wanted you to pull all.
However, they should've set up a party finder instead of using Duty Finder.

I've noticed a trend of people ignoring the adds out right and trying to burn the first boss. If DPS is low and both adds explode in the final part, it can sometimes cause enough damage to kill everyone but the tank which then leads to a wipe because no healer.

Just wait til you start trials it gets worse, yea I thought the community was amazing to but like all things it has its cons as well. You will come across alot of rude people alot of people who dont care to explain anything and will want you to play the way they see fit. At the end of the day you just have to ignore the hate and try your best and learn over time, but no this community is def not as accommodating as you may have been told.
