A single challenge log entry can generate 1k-2k gil out of nowhere, and the meta entries give 10k. We also generate gil by doing roulettes, hunts, leves, beast tribe dailies and maps. Wondrous Tails has a gil option. A casual player doing some easy pve can generate over 50k gil per week without even noticing. My low level alt who I reached Heavensward with made over half a million without any crafting or gathering by the time the sprout icon vanished.

There is so much gil generated from thin air and no commonly used removal from the game except repairs, MB fees, teleports and maybe npc melds. Out of these only repairs and teleport fees apply to people who don't buy or meld things, and there are even ways to avoid repair and teleport fees. Ever heard the phrase "gil has no use in this game"? Gil just gathers in people's pockets and therefore it's buying power is constantly devalued. And people wonder why new glamours go for millions.

For the reasons I stated above I think teleport costs (especially in higher areas) should be 5x higher and repair costs for level 50+ gear should be higher too. The gil cost and gain of playing should roughly balance out to reduce inflation. People may teleport a lot while leveling but they will also generate gil a lot from all the new quests and dungeons.
