Well, probably we might only cause some ruckus around Othard and Ala Migho but not cause a full-fledged war against Garlemard. This way, Thavnair could be used in the 5.0 expansion along with Ilsabard. But I know, Thavnair will be mandatory to get on our side due to it being a very pivotal land (if the Empire controls it, they could easily intercept communication and supplies transported between Eorzea and Othardian realms, isolating both and increasing chances of victory for the Empire while having Thavnair as allies can help getting the aforementioned stuff plus the posibility of having naval assaults from Thavnair (we could enter Garlemard this way, just to put an example).

On a side note: Am I the only one who finds the whole samurai cutscene too stereotypical? I mean I could pick almost any anime with katana fight and see the same elements: grunts gulping and hesitating while a first one runs recklessly just to be beaten badly, guy cutting bullets with the katana, the sequence that goes: run through enemies, make some floritures with the katane after being behind them, seathe it and at the moment the click from seathing sounds, everything goes *kazoom* or *splurt*.

After watching that trailer, they better give the player character the chance in a cutscene for the delayed swing. That is to say, the whole cliche bit of the samurai attacking, then sheathing the sword, then the enemy falls down/an object is cut in half. If they don't give the players the chance to do that at some point I'm going to be very upset!

Maybe in the SAM questline but I wouldn't expect much. They don't usually do Job specific animations for cutscenes. That said, I would love some stuff like that in cutscenes. Its just more work than I think they have time for.

Well, actually.

Ninja actually has a Job specific cutscene. In the final job quests for ARR and HW, your character walks to the end of a very high place and leaps down in a really badass scene, then they show your character kneeling and very slowly stand up, it's awesome. In the HW version, your character actually assassinates some random dude before leaping down, it's pretty epic. If we DON'T get that for a Nin quest in SB I'm going to be disappointed!

Has it been said why we're going all the way to Othard, instead of focusing solely on Gyr Abania? I've seen speculation that we've been exiled from Eorzea proper or that we're being shipped to the east as part of a bargaining deal with the Garleans, but I haven't been able to find anything official.

We can only really speculate at this point. What's clear, though, is that the Garleans are not the aggressors this time around. Anything they do from Baelsar's Wall onwards is purely reactionary in response to Ilberd's scheming - and whilst we've been told that Zenos is a bad apple that isn't something that is applicable to Garlemald as a whole. My guess is that he'll seize power (either over Garlemald in its entirety given that he's the Emperor's son and thus presumably next in the line of succession) or he'll be 'disowned' by the Emperor for screwing up and will be pushing his own, separate agenda like Gaius and Nael.

I don't think Zenos will go rogue, I'm more inclined to think that between freeing ala mihgo, freeing Doma, and killing Zenos? It's going to lead to all out war with Garlemald finally.

I don't think Zenos will go rogue. I do think he will seize power and his ambitions will put Garlemald at risk. I could easily see a Garlean chose to aid us because he or she comes to conclusion that Zenos's plans put the empire itself at risk. With very Samurai themes to his character I wouldn't be surprised if we end up going to Doma originally to try and find out something about his past. I am betting he probably was governor of Doma at some point. Perhaps he found and made some deal with an ancient entity. We are talking about the 12th legion legatus here.

I think 4.x will end with the start of a war of succession in Garlemald and we will be going there to do what we can to keep from everything completely descending into chaos, perhaps even trying to aid a claimant take the throne and restore piece to the empire. I don't see him being an outcast with him being the major bad and us freeing Doma as well.

Varis has grown on me somewhat but I suspect for the sake of the story he is going to die, probably at Zenos's hands. I think we will discover that he is actually somewhat moderate compared to the old emperor. Regula certainly seemed to suggest a frame of mind that was pragmatic about rulership and potentially open to a more moderate stance to key issues we have with Garlemald. Certainly I can see him seeing that if anyone could summon primals that simply wiping out Beast tribes isn't going to work.

Part of me thinks that we are heading to Othard to learn how to stop Zenos. My guess is that he uncovered some power that makes him unstoppable and we head east to figure out what it is and how to stop it. I don't think that the Kojin being collectors of treasures housing powerful deities is just flavor text.
