    Global server for me~

Because the only people online when I play are Japanese and the rare American.

But I guess it's going to be rare to see anyone when the servers change..

    Maybe they can put up an Oceanic server.. so people like me won't be completely alone ;--;

Letting players choose from both global and language-specific servers sounds like a nice idea in principle.

If language segregated servers are implemented, when a new player is given the choice of servers I'm sure many will automatically choose a server that matches their native language.

After all, it's nice to be able to communicate with everyone, right?

Some of the downsides of language segregated servers that people may not be considering:

    - In very general terms, Japanese players tend to grind crafts more than English speaking players. English speaking servers may tend to suffer from a shortage of high level crafters to make gear and perform repairs.

    - Crafters also keep the economy going as they buy and sell materials during their leveling up. Market wards on English speaking servers could stagnate.

    - Time zones. You are more likely to run into chunks of time when the server is just dead empty. You'd be able to communicate with people, but what if there are fewer people?

The fact that all the servers for the game are in Japan give them a very real advantage. Considering how everything that has pretty much always been clientside in MMO's in the past is server side in FFXIV, this gives JP's a very real difference in ping and responsiveness. If you watch many JP videos on youtube of the game, you can tell their menus all function faster than european and/or american ones do. When PvP gets released, they automatically get a competitive advantage because of this. Even the slightest bit of lag gives the opposition an edge. For example, on our screen we'd be right behind them if they're kiting us, yet we're not actually even in range to hit them. We all know the position data on this game is pretty downright terrible, but its less so for japanese players than it is for us, because there is less distance the information has to be commuted to and from the servers for them. Considering Yoshi completely intends to make PvP a very real part of this game, there will need to be some balancing.

In cases like above, segregated servers are better. There's a reason servers are based off region on most games, and that's so that nobody has a noticeable advantage over another player simply because of where they live. That being said... I don't give a damn if people from around the world play on all the same servers... But there should be servers found AROUND the world, if this is the case. There should be some servers physically located in Europe, and America, at the very least. ESPECIALLY since there is vastly more euro's and americans playing this game than japanese. The JP player is a huge minority on this game.

My thoughts exactly. Many times I logged really early, I always find a bunch of friendly japanese players. Sure, we don't speak but after a courteous bow, we being a friendly pug or a behest. Then in a all NA server, I guess there won't many players to party. That certainly looks pretty grim, indeed.

I know you said "general terms" but don't think this is true at all, most of my LS have multiple lvl 50 crafting jobs, most of the people I talk to from other guilds have crafting jobs also.

What with Materia being such a central part of the game you have to have crafting leveled IMO.

I'm sure the economy will do just fine if the servers become more split, that being said Yoshi said they are planning on making crafting extremely stream lined and not having botched synthesis any more, so im sure it will entice more people to start crafting.

It's great that your LS members have ranked up their crafting.

I was speaking from my own in-game experience -- and with all due respect, I guess our experiences differ.
On my server I do know a number of English speaking players who devote a lot of time to crafting... but I feel they are somewhat exceptional. I know many more who think it is boring and refuse to touch it.

Man OP sure sounds like a weaboo. But yeah I'm for both Global and Regional servers. Just please have Regional servers positioned in the country or region they pertain to, if you go all the way to segregate the language you might as well garner the best possible latency/ping times for your customers. It would also be nice if some Global servers could be on UK or US soil.

    Idk.

I'm not entirely certain how my rather critcial rhetoric on Japanese society could be construed as "weeaboo," but thanks for your input on this matter anyway.

For the record, "weeaboo" is very 2004 or 2005, and sounds like WoW kiddie terminology. "Japanophile" (which I'm not) would at least make you sound like a grown-up.

being with ppl from other time zone, make you feel alone
and i'm having the problem since i'm in gmt and most of the server US
but for over all of what you said it was fun in ffxi to play with different ppl

More often the other way around.

If I am EU, got a "normal" schedule (working during daytime or studying), then most of my time spent online will be after 6PM during weekdays. And in that case, I do want to play on a localized server so I am certain to find enough activity during that timeframe.

So yeah someone working during the night may want to join an international server so he can find players at any time. But that's a minority. For the vast majority of players, no one is playing between 2AM and 4PM (during the week). And if someone happen to be able to log on during the day (holiday, day off, etc.), he can still solo some stuff until everyone else gets online. (craft etc.)

Having the choice between both localized and international servers is just fine. It still grant the possibility of someone who work during the night or with shifts that always change to join an international server

    ---

As for the PvP and latency issue, indeed. We couldn't really feel it on XI because everything is really slow and PvP was meaningless. But if XIV PvP is competitive, then there is no way for NA players to compete against JP. And it's even worse for EU...
