I'm sorry, but no, the graphics difference is night and day. FFXI looks miles better than current runescape, why did you even make that comparison? lol.
and you can't fault a 10+ year old game for not looking like XIV.

I started XI in late 2015 and think it looks great for a game of its time especially a console MMO.

No, I don't miss it at all. 1.0's original battle and ability system was a broken horrible mess and rightly changed by Yoshi (and before you pass judgement, most players actually requested it be changed). Now, the 'final' form of 1.0's battle/ability system at the final 1.23 patch was far far better and greatly improved - in fact in some respects I think I prefer it to the ARR system (mostly because it's consistency) and was also a lot slower than ARR's system.. but that's a whole different barrel of moogles...

The current system just needs to have consistency brought to it, as it is becoming too muddled by all the experimenting and tinkering with it to make it seem more like a FFXI-style Job system.

Have you seen the NXT client?
    vs
    runescape NXT

Also note that i said "almost." Those looks pretty close to me.

Also, Im chosing not to play it because it is ugly compared to current p2p mmos...no matter how old it is. I like playing story based games with the best graphical quality possible. It makes the story feel more real, and immersive.

We could have some amalgamation of skills and arts to "make" our ideas of what a Job is, but I like being able to look at my character and see Monk or Warrior. 1.x's classes were a cute idea, but they just felt like something from another MMO, another typical fantasy fluff game. Biggest aesthetic appeal to me is the FF flare. I like Warrior has abilities that feel savage and oppressive, much like Dark Knight has specific skills that are dark and edgy or twisted. You can't fully capture the feel of a specific Job when you're just piecing together a bunch of skills to make some concept of what that Job would be.

I love Warrior, but I hate tanking. More opportunities to just rock out as a Warrior slapping shit around with an axe would be great. This is where I think more content could be made where the trinity isn't so enforced and there's more freedom in personal action.

But I much prefer a wide, expanding collection of Jobs with very distinct aesthetics and styles over just mashing something together. Like, I do that in ESO; I made a Dark Knight-esque thing in that game with their skill system, it's neat. But so is actually playing something called a Dark Knight and wearing armor that specifically evokes that image.

This post makes me glad that I can look past a game's graphics and enjoy the other 90% of what a game has to offer.
    Feels good man.

I loved XI's graphics. They seem simple if you just stare at a couple screen shots. The polygon count looks the same, but there's a significant level of texture detail in environments and equipment that really makes things come to life despite the sometimes blocky or flat models. That screenshot certainly doesn't do the game any justice, a poor pick. Even XIV's ground detail will look like crap if your camera is right up on it, and zoomed out to the point where you're not getting an eye of anything else. Though, Bahamut's model looks spectacular.

I was more so looking at the floating rocks being flat and straight but bahamut looks ok in some areas (like the chest) but others look like foam. lol. I dont mind that so much in a game i play for gameplay(i play pokemon on 3ds..). Though, when watching a cutscene in a story telling rpg i would prefer something on par with ps4 graphics over something that looks 10 years old. As long as the quality of the actual story doesnt go down for visuals. A "Why settle for less when you can have more?" kind of thing.

This is the main thing for me. The lack of consistency is annoying, everything has a special case or exception or something.

Pick a class to start the game. Apart from Rogue, which is a special case.
Level a class to 30 and its secondary to 15 to unlock its job. Except Arcanist which is a special case with 2 jobs.
Jobs level alongside the class. Except the HW jobs which have no class.
Jobs start at 30. With the possible exception of the SB jobs starting at 50.

Just keep it simple. Pick a class (add Rogue to the character menu,) level it to 30, unlocking basic jobs require a specific class, advanced jobs just require the same role. (E: and make Scholar an advanced job.)

Why not just make all jobs available at start up?
