No, I don't miss it at all. 1.0's original battle and ability system was a broken horrible mess and rightly changed by Yoshi (and before you pass judgement, most players actually requested it be changed). Now, the 'final' form of 1.0's battle/ability system at the final 1.23 patch was far far better and greatly improved - in fact in some respects I think I prefer it to the ARR system (mostly because it's consistency) and was also a lot slower than ARR's system.. but that's a whole different barrel of moogles...

The current system just needs to have consistency brought to it, as it is becoming too muddled by all the experimenting and tinkering with it to make it seem more like a FFXI-style Job system.

This is the main thing for me. The lack of consistency is annoying, everything has a special case or exception or something.

Pick a class to start the game. Apart from Rogue, which is a special case.
Level a class to 30 and its secondary to 15 to unlock its job. Except Arcanist which is a special case with 2 jobs.
Jobs level alongside the class. Except the HW jobs which have no class.
Jobs start at 30. With the possible exception of the SB jobs starting at 50.

Just keep it simple. Pick a class (add Rogue to the character menu,) level it to 30, unlocking basic jobs require a specific class, advanced jobs just require the same role. (E: and make Scholar an advanced job.)

Why not just make all jobs available at start up?

Yoshi said that if it were ever to happen, it would be 5.0. However, that doesn't guarantee it will happen, he just said if they were to do it, it would be by then.
