Mentor Players Kicking newer players from Duty Ques for low DPS

This is why I do 100% personal parties. Go ahead, look up my lodestone, all you'll see is my casual hang out clothes. (provided the thing isn't stuck on Botanist again) I always think that first timers are in it just for the story, and I dont think Alphinaud is really looking at the WoL with judgmental eyes thinking "Hmmm, mayhap they can increase their DPS..."

I am guessing they saw your i150 white accesories/ head piece and that was why your actually booted because getting booted from a dungeon for low dps is actually incredibly rare from what I have seen, you should also dump the vit gear as dex is your main stat that effects damage.


You may want to run some of the lower dungeons and get tomes/gear first before continuing as i150 was low for the first HW dungeons let alone Sohr Khai and the gap is going to continue the more further you get in dungeons.

The mentor should have at least explained why he was booting you but unfortunately most just have it to get the mount from it.

The marked part is the most important one.

You have to know: Even if a item bumbs your ilvl, it doesn't need to be a "upgrade".

If you equip a VIT ring (for tanks) ilvl 205 and achieving an average ilvl of 205, your real (role-related) ilvl is more close to 187 !!!

Using gear for other classes (e.g. with no mainstat for your class) is considered "cheating the system" and people get kicked for that alone.

Also white stuff is just plain bad, once leveling is done.

Go to Ishgard, get your ***-daily hunts and weekly hunts. Those will give you 175 seals (on the first day), a right side item ilvl 200 costs 55 seals.

The issue is with dungeons that have minimum ilevel caps, SE takes into consideration all stats, not just main. The reason being the main stat given from fending lends you nothing to DPS as a BRD (VIT), all you're gaining is CRIT off those fending stats (and one case of skill speed). Dungeons have almost nothing in terms of accuracy and it's a dead stat once you meet the cap for whatever you are running.

The stat formula is Weapon Damage > Main Stat > First Favorable Secondary > Second Favorable Secondary > Least Favorable Secondary. You only opt for something in favor of secondaries when it outweighs the weapon damage (in case of weapons) and main stat AND the secondaries lost over another piece. This is where knowing stat weights for your particular job is worth knowing.

I wonder just how slow the dungeon was actually going. Well there's no way to tell because the OP got kicked before the first boss. From their last comment on the first page this person seems to have the idea of BRD and the abilities leading up to it.

Then again, people using mentors in any way at all is a big mistake. Still, I just took DRG through to 60 and before I hung up my lance, these dungeons took a bit when you were at or around the required iLV but nothing life changing. Though did have to slow down a tad on some things.

If anything the run may have been a casual progression, not baiting the comets and not taking out the green slime may cause for a bad time. You could point out they are lacking some skills needed, and that is valid. Still maybe the mentor did see that the BRD isn't using blood for blood or skipping out on other cool downs, and not seeing it as them not having it but being lazy. As a new player you get new moves, so you have to get those new moves into your memory to use so sometimes a new player may forget it.

My guess is the mentor wanted to get in and out, done. This wasn't happening, so they kicked the person who was new. Funny could have easily been the other DPS that was causing things to go slow, or they got another new player who really wasn't up to the standards.

Just attempted to run Sohr Khai lvl 60 and my gear lvl is 202 so of course I am a newer player. First time running the dungeon and I stated so in the beginning while being friendly and saying hello. Got qued with a Mentor and before we even got to the first boss he/she stated how unhappy he/she was because DPS was too

You are fine its just gona be lame people that just wana trip about everything Id say just keep tryin to improve ur skills and ignore people like that. this is a game not homeWORK! ppl play it for relaxing and enjoy the gaming time, dont make hard WORK out of it.

So because the TC didn't put in the work, 3 other people now need to put in more effort than normal to clear that dungeon.

And character progression is now considered homework in a vertical progression MMO? What a joke. 2hrs of pretty casual PvPing is now hard work? If playing the game is considered hard work to you, then maybe you should find a game you can actually enjoy playing. You might want to try a single-player game this time around.

I also never said he needed to watch a guide for Sohr Khai. Ask in novice network, FC chat, or anywhere if there is anything you be careful about. Be properly geared (for example, not wearing VIT accessories or i150 gear in Sohr Khai). Know how to play your job. It's hilarious people are saying that's too much to ask for.

And the idea of holding healers and tanks to a different standard than DPS is also idiocy. Just because you are a DPS doesn't mean you get to be carried.

If I looked at someone's gear in an end game dungeon (and the only reasons I'd look are if things were dying really slowly or if they had some cool glamour and I wanted to know what it was) and saw that they only met the min ilvl because they cheated the system by using a different role's accessories then I would kick them too.
Granted I would probably tell them why they were being kicked (dps is really low AND they are cheesing the min ilvl requirements). I wouldn't kick just for low dps (although I might if they mouth off when someone tries to provide friendly advice) but I would kick for low dps combined with cheesing the ilvl requirement.

Nonetheless, maybe it was not completely saint thing for both mentors to initiate vote kick new people but it require more than a mentor to get actually kicked both time fair and square. You came to this forum for the missing clue why you got kicked. Take constructive criticism from here and move on.

Initially, I was going to play devil's advocate and assume the OP simply didn't realize they needed to level Lancer further for cross skills. It also sounded as though they were kicked instant after the tank checked over her gear. Reading through everything, that seems less the scenario. Since we only have one side of the argument, it's hard to know how his mentor reacted. I won't lie, if I asked you about cross skills and also found out you cheated the ilvl with VIT gear just to sneak in, I'd be tempted to kick as well. That tells me you knew exactly what you were doing: i.e. hoping to be sped through story content. That may not be the case though. If you flat out didn't realize, which is somewhat reasonable for new players, I'd be more forgiving.
