Japanese people are extremely racist, in general. Japan is one of the most nationalistic countries in existence. They have an overwhelming pride of what is Japan and look down on almost anyone that isn't Japanese. Now, of course there are exceptions, and Japan is by no means tiny, so when you play something like a video game that appeals to a specific group of people (gamers), you may not see the problem as much as it exists. But the fact that the Japanese community is the only community really pushing segregated servers really says a lot. Some English speaking players push for it as well, but not even close to as many English speaking players care about the issue.
maybe part of it but not all
ima US citizen of of nationality but i fluently speak both and i started FFXI when i was in japan

I tended to want to play with the JP back then, and even sometimes now if its not my LS. cause compared, a good load of nonJP have:
    - lack of attentiveness/dont pay attention
    - AFK a ton
    - dunno how to play their class
    - god they boast alot

The JP have no problem playing with foreigners as long as they are skilled and attentive. They will certainly remember who you are. Nationalism, just sounds like a poor excuse. You dont have to be JP to not wanna play with a bunch of non attentive AFKing pple who leave in 30min.

The more you complain and make it a issue, the more its gonna be a thought in a developers mind. The JP arent the ones that are gonna loose out if the servers get segregated. Also alot of the strats will be lost.
NONjp - i noticed that they post their alot of their success wins but they never post their strats (or at least till later) thus only a limited group grows
JP - their every strat is posted all over fan forums once they challenge it. I guess you can say that their whole 'nationality' grows cause they arent focused on being the 'first'. Which, if i were to join a server, id pick the one with this mentality.

    @ Reinheart
i got harassed cause i was tan from hawaii >.>

    aside from that,
i prefer playing with JP players and my LS NA players.
i prefer talking to NA players more cause their hella casual.

    This ..

What is it with US players and AFK so often, I do find that incredibly rude, sure I get that people have stuff to do but sometimes they keep you waiting for so long, if you got something to do like that why even join a party, just say I may be away for 30 mins maybe you would rather find someone else.

Like Rein said also its common courtesy to say 10-15 mins prior to leaving a party that you will be leaving, but some just ding and leave.

Obviously Europeans can be very similar in the way they act to Americans but I do think there is a bigger lack of manners from US players.

And the know it all boasting is enough to drive anyone mad.
