    Healers pushing their limits will go through this, and unfortunately take their tanks with them... and the rest of the party. It is honestly part of the learning process for healers, much in the same way a tank learns exactly how much they can take without overwhelming their healer. I continuously make this mistake in groups. Sometimes I underestimate the tank and expect them to use a CD, he doesn't, my cure doesn't get off in time and down he goes. Other times, the tank literally saves my ass by using their CDs effectively. Simply put is sometimes my focus is too much on healing, and sometimes it is too much on DPSing, which reduces optimization.

    I love that challenge though, and I always apologize to my party when I know I need to put more focus on healing.

For sure, I encourage if they're learning (even vets make mistakes once-in-a-while), I'm usually the first to bitchsmack people that get pissy with our healers (I've been yelled at enough myself to know how horrible it feels). But it's pretty obvious because a mistake like that is usually followed by "sorry my bad," but when my sis is using cooldowns and Clemencying herself for 80% of the dungeon and she still dies multiple times, you can't really excuse that, lol (... I wish I was exaggerating, This is a pretty common situation: "Oohkay, I've used all my cooldowns. my MP is gone. Healer is dancing in the corner. I have 800hp and Hallowed Ground ends in 2 seconds.Mandar you better get titan out. Like now."). Hell, I've lost a few tanks while trying to practice the Cleric Stance dance (which I still suck at, but one day!! I will master it), but it was never that bad even when I first started. D: Like really, I should've brought my under-geared SCH, at least then physic would do something for me. -_-;

    Dunno, maybe we've just had a very unlucky, month-long run of troll healers lol.

    edit: to be fair, I don't think these are actually healers we are getting. I think they're probably DPS that power leveled in PotD and don't really care about healing. It's still frustrating though, and unfortunately has made me skeptical of every healer we get in dungeons now. ^^;

    Somehow no matter what I do in anything having control of a supporting role falls on my shoulders, and since I got more and more into that I've found myself generally enjoy playing support classes in just about anything. Plus I sometimes find amusement in the jokes of "I could ruin your moment of glory and let you die", not that I encourage that kind of attitude if it's meant in a serious manner.

    What pushed me towards Scholar in particular though is aside from often playing support roles, I've always loved classes that involved having a pet/minion/partner to assist. It does take some multitasking but I suppose that's something I enjoy being able to do. Plus in a game like this where DPSing as a healer is highly encouraged I get to satisfy my need of killing things as well! And Scholar seems to do that really well. :^D

    I don't know what gravitated me towards the healer classes when I first played mmo's a couple years before. I know I love helping people in real life, so that mentality likely translated to when I play games I really can't imagine myself playing anything besides a healer at all.

    My random jumble of thoughts, no particular order:

    * I like helping and watching over the party. Even if you do things that drive me up the wall, facepull (as DPS) and stand in fire and so on... you're not dying as long as I can help it and still have MP left.
    * Healers are the only jobs with a situational kit instead of a boring "rotation".
    * I've tried tank a few times. If we get a bad healer that can't dodge and dies... There's nothing I can do. If I'm on healer and we get a bad tank or bad anything, I can usually heal through it.
    * The occasional appreciative comments are nice, when they happen
    * Like someone said on page 1... "Someone else might have gotten it wrong."

    Mostly because of my anxiety disorder. I cannot bear the pressure of having to do big numbers of damage in endgame as a DPS nor the pressure tanks have to deal with all the positioning and cooldown managing. Some might argue that healing is the most stressful role because the life of the whole party depends on you (and if you fail mechanics and die, they will die too) - but it's a pressure I can cope with.

    Another big point is that healing is organic and intuitive, even more so for WHM. We get no rotations (except for a simplistic DPS rotation), just a bunch of situational skills to deal with. You heal with your guts - especially when it's a new fight and you don't know what to expect next - and it matches well my real life behavior.

    Because I get to have the biggest impact on the team. I can erase a thousand mistakes (if I'm feeling nice or see a sprout in the party), I can contribute tons of damage, and I also get the prettiest spells in the game (AST).

    It used to be because I enjoyed being a vital member of the group entrusted with the party's safety, and having the ability to save a run when things went south.

    Now it's because most of the healers I come across are either completely inept or so up themselves I refuse to trust anyone else.

    I've been a career healer in almost any MMO I've played (the only exceptions to date being TERA or any MMO that has no dedicated support/healer role) and it's stuck here since.

    It's a nice feeling being the backbone of the party and being to handle almost any situation thrown at you regardless of the insanity of what's going on.

    There's multiple reasons. For one, TBH I find it fairly simple to play compared to the massive rotations I need to follow as a DPS. Second, I like fast queues. Third, and most importantly, I like the feeling of helping my party perform at their best. It makes all their accomplishments your accomplishments too, because you helped make it happen!
