Joined a Zurvan Ex clear party and we wipe to the adds multiple times. obviously people were complaining a ton about everything and how bad everyone else BUT themselves were bad yadda yadda. so i figured i'd just leave 'em and see if my SMN was even ready for zurvan by trying the SSS dummy. turns out i'm barely qualified for it under the ideal conditions of SSS.....i beat it, but with 9 seconds left on the clock. i guess it's back to practicing my rotation and stuff while i upgrade my ilvl then before attempting him as a dps again.

But you beat it! I think that means you'd be fine. Just the mechanics you'd have to watch out for while trying to maintain your dps.

A few tips for Zurvan from another SMN who's at 33 clears, the most important part of Zurvan in terms of DPS is your opener even if you're not trying to skip soar

1. If you do not have the relic or the A12s use the book you get from him once it drops/you can buy it. The DET helps a ton with consistency even if it's very much not BiS. Eat priestly omelettes to make up for the crit loss.
2. Try to go into the instance with 1 aetherflow stack up and another one ready to use. Use shadlowflare when the countdown hits three, and once it's down go straight into tri-disaster and hit Garuda's contagion. Burn through the first stack, but don't use dreadwyrm yet go to ruin III until he uses flares. Once you move for flares, blow through the stack again, hit raging strikes, trance, and do your rotation for that. You should be able to get through the whole thing before he makes you move for flares again. After that keep using ruin III until he drops.
3. After drop, use shadowflare again, and ruin III until tri-disaster and contagion come back up. If you used them both as soon as the match started they should be up again a few seconds after the drop you do not want to manual cast your DoTs before the first soar.
4. If he's not below like 77% at that point you're probably not skipping so you can go back to what you normally do if you aren't, and keep burning (hq max ethers are your best friend) if you are even if your mp gets super low. You can use the add-phase to get mp back up.
5. Every time you dodge sourthern cross during the tether phase you will have a perfect opening to manually refresh all of your DoTs before he casts the meteors.

I kind of have to agree with him. While Purification/Invigorate can give you a lot, and staggering them can keep you going, you will run out. The Arrow'd be better on a BLM, since to a point it can start making things a little rougher in the long run
It's kind of fun, though. my AST buddy and I play a game of 'how quickly can I kill my TP' where he gives me enhanced/extended arrows as often as he can

Finally decided to clear Castrum and Praetorium so I could move on to post-story stuff. Now, I know most players don't enjoy these, or don't want to sit and wait for all the cutscenes or whatever, and really, I'm not invested enough to care, so I'm at least doing a favor and skipping all those. Castrum runs mostly ok. I'm usually not entirely clear what's happening or why, but mostly feels like a jumble of "break everything."
Praetorium was a bit more of a mess. Get to the point where I guess everyone's supposed to get in a magtek thing, I think? But it didn't work for me, or I didn't do a thing right, idk. Didn't seem to be working for a couple other members who may have also been running it first time, who knows. Party goes rushing off ahead, kinda expected the speed run mode, not terribly bothered, until they've gotten so far out of sight that I can't really follow along with whatever is supposed to happen. Cutscenes start triggering that show me being somewhere completely different, lols. Totally lost (along with a couple others) nbd, party is stuck waiting anyway, not really bothered if they want to leave folks behind.

But then the point that prompts the story. "BRD (me) lb pull." They're all sat at the next boss, waiting I guess for me to do something, completely oblivious to the fact that they left me behind 5 minutes ago. Fortunately for them I had stumbled into a battle and was in the process of dying, so I could quickly shortcut right to them. Still, though, bleh. Awful party experience.

Moral of the story, look, I'm new, but I know enough to know end-gamers don't want to deal with these runs, or just speed run everything in general regardless. But if you're stuck there with fresh players just trying to clear story, either make sure they're keeping up and know what's going on, or just keep going and clear the whole thing yourselves. You're not having fun here, and we're not having fun being rushed through.

Just gonna assume most in thread here wouldn't be quite that inconsiderate. I'm not saying I expect everyone to teach every new player. Just seemed like the least people could do is watch for players falling behind or getting lost.

I've come here to rant.

I am levelling AST since we are in a bit of a dry content spell. Up to spamming Darkhold.
I like to consider myself as a patient person in a dungeon and I don't get angry at newer players, but this experience made me question the mentor system.

So I queue into DH on AST, Tank is a mentor, 2x DPS both have a plant icon (one new, one returning).
So at the start the tank wasn't holding the mobs in the crystalized field to protect from the eye's big AoE, that's fine, I just healed through it. No big deal, and when I had a spare minute I asked to pull it to the blue glowy stuff. (Didn't matter in the end as I pulled hate on most of the mobs). Same thing happened with the first boss - tank didn't pull it all the way into the blue stuff and it was invuln for a good 15-20 secs. The new player asked the tank to pull it in (I found that amusing.. A new player mentoring a mentor).

So we get to the orange crystals that shoot out AoE explosions periodically.. Tank has a few mobs and is sitting in the red circle. In addition to this, all of the Drake firebreath cones, any AoE on the ground, they won't even attempt to dodge them. I mean they won't even move from their spot. This in turn has me forced to cure bomb them fairly constantly, and it made me unable to toggle Cleric very often so I just didn't bother DPSing most pulls (which hurts my soul). With all of these curebombs I inevitably pulled a few mobs and they were interrupt spamming me. I mean we got through it with no full wipes, but it just baffles me.

How is this person a mentor and is unable to deal with the most basic level of combat mechanics in this game? I don't know their circumstance so they might have been unable to for some reason, I dunno, but I would have expected someone with a mentor status to actually *attempt* to move out of an AoE on the ground.

Totally fine with new players, especially in levelling dungeons and stuff. This kind of behaviour just baffled me coming from someone who is supposed to give new players advice.

Sounds like you guys didn't pick up the key needed to operate them. Before you go up the elevator on the left you need to get the key on the right. There is a cast bar when picking it up, so make sure you're waiting for it to finish "casting."

So decided to work on my relic. I get to the 'run these ten dungeons' part. Ok, easy stuff. it's late early morning only few dungeons few. Que for sohm al. At the start the tank runs off and barely get protect off. I'm like ok...I see. This tank then proceeds to two pull the portion before the first boss.

They're losing aggro and taking a lot spike dmg. So I spam heal them and the poor dd. I take a closer look...This war is in deliverance and starts spamming his fel cleave macro. I'm like 'are you serious' at this. They kill the first pack...very slowly.

once they finished,tank again runs off and does the same thing not soo lucky this time. Just too much and mobs are slipping off to the dd and I. We wipe. I start to type out maybe they should tank regularly and they boot me. I'm like 'well ok' que again.

Low and behold new party same tank. I went to bed miffed.

last night helping my friends do nidhogg steps of faith for first time so they can progress story on my whm.
Paladin pulls no stance holds him in weird position (meh I'm just picky but still) and no cooldowns and the scholar wasn't shielding. didn't even make it to adds first go. So I explain first stage thinking we could do it step by step not minding a few wipes. Tank completely ignores pulls no stance looses it to me on first medica 2 no cooldowns and half dps dead by add stage. also didn't listen to a word I said. So we kick for trolling cause clearly this guy must be messing around. New tank comes in pulls we get through adds it this point while I'm rezzing I notice the scholar was just dancing at start point ( I had wondered why it felt like there was no one helping me heal I just put it down to possible more the two new people taking lots of damage) turns out the tank was her husband and she was protesting. Was about to kick her for harassment but tank pulls so we manage to somehow do the entire fight with only a few people dying solo heal at least two new dps and the scholar wasting our lb when ever it hit lb 1 while dancing.

I felt pretty smug at the end XD Well done my two newbies for dealing with me getting angry on ts and having a melt down when I ran out of mana during och mourn screaming stack and mana song (they were both dragoons so no clue why I was yelling it at them but oh well XD) XD

So running Thordan EX for birds, for some reason I see a lot of people who ragequit after 1 wipe, or ragequit after a successful clear with no wipes, possibly because a lot of people died.

I'm just wondering what these people are expecting. This is not a static party with voice chat and fine-point coordination. This is a bunch of random people who got together 5 minutes ago. If you're going to quit just because we took 10 whole minutes to clear a fight and ended up dying a lot, but without wiping, I don't even know what to say to that kind of ridiculous elitism, except for "good riddance".
