because there is a time vs reward calculation to be made here and the Alex NM is terrible in this regard. People who are catching up tend to have a real premium on time so its much better to use the 235 gear as a stepping stone to getting the proper Scripture gear."Because it can be hard to win rolls" is a ridiculous reason to not farm Alex gear if you want to bring your alts up to par. Is i235 gear "enough"? Yeah, I suppose. But 15 ilvls is a huge difference and not bothering to collect the gear just because you may not win rolls all the time is mindboggling logic.

Well.... if people don't have good enough gears and they have to use i235 gears from PvP, how can they farm Alex in the first place?

Myself i have used some of the Makai Healer gear to heal dungeons as the pieces were actual upgrades from what i had.
Will also agree in that trying to roll the dice on rolls in Alex is just far too annoying, the few weeks that i would not get the piece needed i could of had a full pvp set.
I look at it as a filler until one could get better gear. Some of us run multiple jobs and simply cannot gear them all up in the best gear right away

It's not frowned upon, dunno where you heard that. If you don't have anything better then use it.
The only thing is that there usually is something better that's easy to get, e.g. Ex roulette gear. It's easy to spam, higher ilvl gear and you can meld it with materia that will actually work and you'll be getting tomes to buy other better gear at the same time.
But if you're just starting a job and you have no tomes but an abundance of wolf marks and your options are pvp gear or nothing, obviously wear the pvp gear.
Personally you can get I250 gear faster through a combination of Trials/Dungeons/Lore/Scriptures/Dun Scaith/Alexander.

NQ 250 crafted gear would trump the PVP gear as well and NQ shouldn't be that expensive. If you can't make gil, then I don't really know what game you're playing.
I disagree with this since it's server dependent on the prices, I also don't think a new player is going to have over 3 mill and if they do then they played it smart while lvling. The NQ stuff is inferior to the Alex normal stuff anyways so it's still a waste when you can spend 0 gil, get scrip/lore at a steady pace and get ilvl 235 gear and save that gil for something else rather then waste it on NQ gear.
Now if you have friends that can craft stuff for you then use lore/GC seals if you have em, to craft HQ gear for 250 so at least you'll be working at a common goal rather then waste gil on normal quality greens that are just barely better than the 245 dungeon gear.
I also checked on Levi there's barely any NQ gear on the MB most of it is HQ ranging from 1.1 mill to 1.8 mill, the only NQ gear I found was between 550k gil - 800k which is absurdly over priced.

Anybody that says it's easy and quick to farm for alexander drops is out of their mind and hasn't done any. I spent my weekend after hitting lvl 60 trying to get drops for my alt (gordias and midas normal was pretty easy to farm, most people don't roll and just leave instances) and gave up and farmed lore and waited a few days for someone to make me gear instead. After doing 30+ runs for a spring and losing every time you start to wonder what exactly you are doing.

I did couple runs earlier to get my healer gear up - didn't take long to get full i250, but then again it's all based on how well you roll and against how many you are rolling.
