As melee dps, I'll LB as soon as LB is ready and I've full buffs on, maybe waiting some CD but at the end, will LB far before last 1% of the boss.
But, they are cases where LB must be saved. Apart the mechanics requiring it, when I see the party struggle on the boss and the duty allows to build up lb in more attempts, I'd prefer to leave lb as a finisher because I don't even know if we do the kill. Unless, of course, someone other of the party wants see the shinies and triggers lb for fun... mages on single target are the best on that.
I don't know. We have 3 tank slots, 6 healers slots and 15 DPS slots. If anything, queues for tanks shouldn't be faster than DPS' queues. Depends on the datacenter, but speaking in general.
Speaking of 24 man. However, if you're unexperienced, you should be vocal about it and ask the other tank to MT instead if possible. If both are new, just play, experiment and enjoy the content.
Like I said before, be vocal about it. People can't read other people's minds. Just use /alliance to say "Hey, I WILL MT." Other tanks trying to voke off you are not that common, but chances are that you might find them at some point. At least you started the fight and the other players know what to expect. If you see the other guy trying take it off you and you can't take it back or the boss is constantly swapping between you two: just let him tank and switch to OT. Don't try to reason with them as it failed at first when you asked for being the MT.

I cleared Zurvan with my static and got a few weapons out of clears with them, but trying to get a party outside my static has been a challenge. First, farms had min level set to 260. When I met that on my AST, farms have been raising it this week to 265, as though ilevel = farm ability, lol.
Joined a clear party on AST yesterday and I left after a few pulls when the MT stayed south after the demon claw mechanic (which was done correctly, kudos), and I took a couple cleaves and died. It wasn't the first time the MT had some positioning issues, so I said something. I was basically told "no, I don't move, YOU move," and when I mentioned other groups do it that way too, the response was basically "you're the only one who had an issue." So I said if we're going to argue about it, good night, and left the instance.
What ticked me off was, as I zoned in but before I dropped party, the tank said "guess some people just expect a carry" which, sorry, no, I've already got my clear.
If you can't keep South safe, you're not going to be able to farm in PF, dude, good luck.
After 2 1/2 years of playing, I finally reported my first player for harassment. Qued into PotD 91-100 just to work on getting a padjali weapon for my newly leveled AST. I go in as a MNK and get a party with 3 other dps. Not ideal, but it's palace so whatever. 3 of us in this group were not having good days. 3 of us died at around floor 93 because stuff happens in palace. So the drg who didn't die rez's us. On my way to the key portal I ran into a mob that I should have seen but wasn't paying attention to. The drg who rez'd us says "Logic dictates you run into the mob instead of around it, huh." I could taste the salt already. I replied "sorry about that. Wasn't paying attention." Hoping to soothe things over. Cut-to floor 97, me and the 2 other guys died a couple more times and the drg's frustrations were understandable. So on 97, the sprout in our group pops a rage pomander and goes to work. The drg immediately asks him why he did that because we only had 2, yada yada, should have saved it, blah blah blah. The sprout replies that it doesn't really matter because it's palace and these items don't carry over. I agree with him because I don't think it's worth causing a stir over. The drg starts berating all us, calling us useless and saying he's carrying us. Admittedly he was because he was the only one who didn't die the entire time. The sprout tells him he didn't mean to cause problems and he just wants to finish. The drg keeps on with his BS until floor 99. At one point we told him that if it was that bad, he was free to leave and we would wait for someone else to join. I should reiterate that there was no cursing or foul language from either side. Us 3 troubled children were sincerely trying to keep things amicable. At 99, we come to a room chalk full of mobs that we have to get through to progress. We start pulling them one by one when the drg says "my parting gift for morons." Then proceeds to use up EVERY POMANDER IN OUR INVENTORY in rapid succession and then immediately leaves saying "good luck." Needless to say, we wiped in that room. The worst part about it was this dude was a Mentor. I know there's a big debate about how mentors should act. My stance on it is that you don't have to mentor anyone or say anything at all. Just don't be a dick. You're human and it's ok to be frustrated with a group like ours. But to resort to such childish behavior simply to spite the people you're with is too far. I reported him as soon as I got out and was contacted by a GM shortly after. Not sure what will come of it. But for all the mentors out there, I would advise you to be cautious of your actions while wearing the crown icon. To me, you should carry yourself with a little bit more decorum than what this drg did.
Hmm, lemme think about that. Tank role, doesn't get penalized for moving and are fairly mobile jobs who don't have to cast most of the time. Or caster DPS and healers who have to stand still to be able to actually cast. Hrmm, I wonder who would be the sensible one to have move... -_-
I wonder if they blame NPCs for eating cleaves in solo story / job quests. Gladiator has an early level mission where you have to aim mobs away from an NPC because they'll die otherwise.

My internet connection decided to troll me when I was running Sohm Al Hard.
I got really laggy but it was no biggie. The DPS with high enough that things were dying fast and I didn't have to stance dance. No one died. Then we got to the first boss. it was going swimmingly until my internet decided to screw me over (boss @ 50%-ish) and disconnected me for a good minute.
They wiped. But they waited for me to get back on anyways and we decided to take a second whack at it. We beat the boss this time. I apologized and told them I could drop the party as soon as my fiance's out of his Zurvan run and I can have him replace me as their healer. They said its fine and told me to finish the run with them.
The rest of the run went well. No one dying and my internet seems to be getting better this time. I'm not lagging anymore so I decided to at least put up CS on, throw my dots, bane, and then Shadowflare, and then drop CS to succor/adlo. I would have continued with broil but I feared I will lag again and I won't be able to chance stance quickly.
Last boss. I thought we would finish the the run without anymore hiccups. Then come at 10% left, my internet decided to die out on me again and I was out of the game again into the character selection screen. By the time I got back in, only the MNK was left in the run, hoping he gets the drop. I didn't even bother checking what it was - he deserved it more than I do.

I am an off tank by trade and I run with a great, responsive MT who tanks Zurvan really well. So when that was their attitude I was more than happy to leave. It was too bad, because we almost got past tethers on the second pull. But if the MT is gonna be all "no, YOU move, I'M the MT," peace bro, and it was never gonna be a carry.

You know, if he hadn't been immediately defensive about it and blamed me, I might have stayed. But his response was it's your problem, this is your issue, you do it my way or get out.
So I got out. And nowhere was it said that he was doing it for dps positionals. We didn't have a MNK. It was purely for his convenience.
What infuriated me was his implication he was "carrying me" when I have multiple clears, was keeping up my end of heals as well as dps, and hadn't caused any party wipes. My death was recoverable but he wanted to argue about it.
