I am 100% against segregated servers.

Ping is an issue, yes. But what made you think that language specific servers will physically resides in their respective region? Do you think that French speaking servers will be placed in France or Europe? For all you know ALL servers would resides in Japan.

OP has summed it up very well. And I do agree as to how and why so many Japanese players would want their own servers. There are several moments when I, too, shy away from any contact with strangers in the game, especially when I just run into some random assholes. It makes me feel afraid of other players, and feel paranoid about their possibility to be rude or cause me some headache. This is mainly why I don't join any shout party and don't pick up random strangers (total strangers, I mean) in my party.

This is not all because of FFXIV, since my server Palamecia has a lot of nice people and I have seldom run into big bad bastards (but yeah whenever I ran into one, OMG they're HORRIBLE!) I played other games too and whenever I am put in the lobby or join the room with players who're either sore loser/troll/rude/asshole/total jerk/I am here to ruin everyone's game type of players, it gives me a tough time trying to convince myself to play in public game/room/party again. So, having experienced similar feeling through online gaming before, I could very well understand your point of view about why Japanese players are sort of phobic in the game.

Back to the main topic, about the Japanese server, I would have nothing against it, though, as we will still have the freedom of choosing which server we want to play on. The ONLY, and I really mean ONLY, thing that would bug me about is is that I have some Japanese friends in FFXIV, though not as many and not as close as back in my FFXI days. What IF when Japanese server happens and my friend's friends and/or Linkshell decide to go to Japanses server? Of course my Japanese friends would want to follow, to stick around with his/her group. Then they will be torn between 2 thoughts, to stay with international friends they have made or met, or pack up and leave with Japanese friends. In practice, if I were them I would reluctantly choose to pack and go with my group. Because yeah who else, if not the people from your country who are in the same timezone as you, would be guaranteed to show up in the game at the same time as you or be able to make it possible to form static party or arrange appointment to do stuff in the game at a specific time of the day on regular basis?

One wouldn't want to be left alone on a server where most people log in at different hours from yours. How sad it is, I would have to leave in order to be able to enjoy the game as a group, not solo.

In real, I would, too, be sad if my Japanese friends leave because then we won't be even able to get in touch in-game, not to mention to do in-game events together or go EXP together. It's gonna be real sad and lonely to lose friends due to server separation.

I agree with most ppl on here that segregation of servers is bad. When I played 11 I had many JP friends and were very helpful. Sadly I haven't really had the chance to meet any in 14 because of the lack of party search function. But lets not narrow it to just Japanese, I enjoy playing with all nationalities from around the world. Keep the servers global....

I'm really impressed at the depth of the discussions taking place here. We can't say definitively which is the prevailing opinion on these matters, but one thing has been made clear: many have been able to form bonds with others throughout the world, JPN or otherwise, within the current system. I, for one, think this is a great thing. In the next few days, I'll take some time to translate some of the Japanese forum discussions on the matter, so we can understand what they are thinking on the other side of the pond.

    Hi Reverser,

    Great topic.

Here's my vote *for* Global Servers to continue to be the main option (most plentiful) for Final Fantasy XIV 2.0.

Playing with people around the world is one of the reasons I enjoyed Final Fantasy XI and XIV so much.

If they have Language-Specific Servers as an option that's fine, but please maintain the existing world servers as Global (and here's to hoping they're not the minority (i.e., I hope most servers are Global to allow more cross-pollination of cultures and to have a more colorful gameplay experience)).

    Thanks!

Did I miss something? Language-specific servers? The newest outline says World Servers, with matching across all worlds..?

    Hi Neptune,

Yah there's cross-world matching service for content but it's from Yoshida-san here:

Setting up dedicated language-specific servers (to have language specific/global parallel worlds)

The solution is quite simple; Don't bind characters to a "world" but give us the possibility to choose which server to log in to after selecting a character. That way if someone feels like playing on a language-specific server can do that and change back to a global server/another language specific server at will.

I met some great people in FFXI because the servers were forced global, taking that away from FFXIV is a huge disappointment because it won't be the same experience if a choice is involved. I never understood the point of a segregated server anyway, you can still choose to seclude yourself on a global server.

There is no way to do this and maintain a stable economy. Everyone will choose the lowest priced server to buy and the highest priced to turn around and sell.
