Did someone say butt sliders!!!!!!!!?
Did someone say butt sliders!!!!!!!!?
I want to fly everywhere (2.x zones and cities) and have mounts in cites. Will I get that? Probably not, but I can dream can't I?
Never said it was a server issue. The engine is the biggest problem, limitation or not, it's not a good engine. Hardware or software, the ARR team was only given so much and they've just about reached what they can do until they can improve what they have.
You want higher res models? Take to SE about giving the XIV team some proper equipment. The Butts issues is also not a ps3 issue. It was an issue where very detailed 3d modeling is a god damned nightmare for a game where hundreds of models can be on screen performing individual movements.
There are several ways character models were changed to improve performance, but I believe Eorzea turning into IHOP was mainly for gear design reasons and not because SE was afraid of big asses dropping framerates: It's easier to design gear when everyone is more or less the same proportions.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
I never understood this "gear won't work on unique models!" excuse
This isn't a problem for any other MMO where they actually get meaningful proportion options, so why is it that SE is the only company who can't handle it?
"Gear" can simply be automatically deformed and stretched over the character models' dimensions, with the only adjustment needed being a couple textures here and there clipped. It sounds to me like the players making up problems that don't exist to excuse the devs' laziness.
It was mainly for gear design, homogenizing models made it much more effective to create more detailed gear with layers. But that in a way was because the active adjustments the models had to make when characters performed exaggerated movements or awkward poses so that clipping wasn't horrendous and proportions didn't explode when doing something simple as sitting. Other games, even MMOs, can perform these measures without much or any issue, but the engine 1.0 was so inefficient that even the simplest things created huge issues. There are several ways character models were changed to improve performance, but I believe Eorzea turning into IHOP was mainly for gear design reasons and not because SE was afraid of big asses dropping framerates: It's easier to design gear when everyone is more or less the same proportions.
It's more players prefer to call the devs trash when things aren't done the way they like because none of us actually knows what goes on on their end. They need to pin their displeasure on something tangible enough so either the devs are just shit or a console hindering them.I never understood this "gear won't work on unique models!" excuse

More than anything, I'd like more tail options on my kitty. I really want a fluffy tabby cat style stripey tail.
What is it with SE, then? They develop a whole new in-house engine expressly for XIV ARR and XV, which can support greater object density but otherwise has only a faintly higher frame-rate than the one they called cripplingly inefficient, and has considerably worse character and gear detail than said previous engine?
(Note, for instance, that while that nefarious example of the massively resourced potted plant, with over 124 lines of shader code or whatnot, didn't actually bog 1.x (from what I can remember testing on the exact same one after Yoshida's presentation), while a more poorly detailed and now "butt-less" character running across your screen in Luminous will. So what was the real issue before that "forced" them to reduce character polygons and texture resolution?)
If the engine they spent at least two years making is still that poor, do they even stand a chance of making a good one, ever?
They need to work harder at bringing in all the remaining anime hentai Second Life Sims Mario Go Solitaire Vegas Slots crowd demographic.
Butt sliders, fuzzy tails, and more excessively glittery glowy mounts and weapons might solve all of the above. Get rid of those silly dungeon raid ideas.
The Luminous was for XV primarily afair. Either the ARR team took the engine and jerry-rigged it for their purposes, or SE gave them use to a very scaled down version. Or of it was all something that had to be done to use the assets from Crystal.
