I only entered HW about an year after its release so the price I know it is the current price it is at.
If HW was also $40 when it came out, then I guess my only choice is to just accept it...
$40 is the price for Stormblood. But apparently Stormblood's storyline is going to require going through the Heavensward storyline, so they include Heavensward for free to anyone who buys SB. You aren't paying for HW again, you're just not in a position to need that freebie added in.
If they hadn't included it that way, they'd have players with only ARR + SB and no way to access half the content they'd purchased. (Their other alternative would have been to have the HW and SB storylines run in parallel, so either one could follow the ARR story, and could be played in either order, but the devs seem to prefer a continuous narrative.)
YoshiP said he's going to include HW because buying 2 expansions separately would be a hassle, just like how he had to buy 3 expansions separately for another MMO he played, and he didn't want FFXIV players to experience that.
So, my assumption was SB price = SB + HW, which made me think getting this 'we're gonna add HW into the SB expansion' thing a waste of money when I already have HW.
I'm not really sure where you got the idea of 'they won't be able to experience half the content they bought' since you obviously have to have finished 3.5x in order to experience SB.
In my opinion, those people who wanted to just buy SB and say 'yeah this is enough' probably either didn't do their research or something, or thinks they can just skip through HW (which obviously you can't. They're gonna miss so much good stuff D: )
But for those people that just wants to buy everything at once gets the Complete set. That's what that set is for.
IF SB price was going to be $20 like HW is right now, and SE wanted to have a 'expansion only set' and make that $40, it makes complete sense since buying 2 expansions separately is a hassle just like how YoshiP experienced.
I guess my main questions was "why is it $40 when HW is only $20 (now)?" But if HW was also sold at $40 by itself when it first came out, then it makes a lot of sense, and I won't complain if SB came with HW. It's a "free" addition of an expansion after all.
(If SB price was still SB ($20) + HW ($20) = $40, THEN I'm complaining because I don't need another license for HW)
what time does EU preorder start?
will the FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Complete Collector’s Edition has ARR/HW/SB/each ditigal upgrade code separated? so I can give my friend ARR's and HW's digital upgrade code?
The complete edition are usually one code that unlocks everything and not separate codes, I believe is how SE does it.
