    All abilities should be like Arrow Helix

    Targeting in this game is a nightmare, don't deny it. But the good thing about Arrow Helix is that it is an AoE which doesn't require you to target anything. All abilities and spells in this game should take note of this example.

    Just position yourself where you want to be and use your attack.

    It would alleviate a lot of stress. No?

    No. In fact this is a very bad idea.

    What if you want to fight only one thing and there are a mass of enemies around it? This can be the death of all things good and right in the world.

    I'd imagine that some attacks would have a very thin AoE.

    However an option / ability to stack multiple "Casts" for mages in mind would be cool i guess.

    i agree the targeting in this game is very frustrating but this would be solved by having a target system like other mmos not named FF14. How they managed to screw up the simplest of things is anyones guess. I expect and hope the current system is being trashed and burned for 2.0.

    I'm pretty sure one of the only things in this game that will be in 2.0 is the fighting system. Actually I think Yoshida said he is very happy with the battle system. The UI is going to be completely different though, so that may tie in with the targeting system.

    i don't know all this bitching with targeting sistem. With F12, target filtering, /battletarget and new placeholders how people still have problems to target things

    This would be a bad idea. This kind of targetting would work in a hack 'n' slash game but not an mmo where we regularly have to focus on a particular target...not to mention how picky character and enemy placements can be (although this is being worked on).

    The biggest problem with targetting is that when cycling through targets it goes from left to right or right to left rather than nearest to furthest target. Because of this a lot of the time you will target something several miles away instead of what you want to actually target. (This is what needs to be fixed with the targetting issues, not adding a new targetting system every few patches x.x)

    However, you can get around this issue via macros and the new keyboard config options. Personally (as a PGL) I have numpad 5 set to target nearest enemy (rest of numpad I have for movement, walking, autorun etc) and this works fine for me mostly. I imagine if I were a mage I'd still be annoyed with how tabbing through targets works though.
