Are Sprites "wild" elementals?

Personally I believe the Elementals to be Nymian "High Grand Mage" SCH egi gone rouge from the Magi-war & thus Masterless. Plus being in a pema-summoned state for so long & baring a deep grudge for Aether misuse as it maybe their reason they origionally rebealed, lead to their harsh treatment of "outsiders" as they claimed all the Forest their home especially mage-type ones, like those fleeing the fall of Ampodor who maybe Gridania's ansestors (or they got "tainted" during the war, thus turning them on their Master's like a Rampant AI with a virus, the great flood calamity could have even been a cause)... okay I might be grasping at crazy idea's there

As for Sprite's I agree their just passive naturly built aether entites that defend themself when threatened or gone mad (like when u posion, but not enouf to kill, a RL animal it kinda goes feral attacking anything it deams a threat even nearby "ally" animals). Sprite's may even be nature's way of saying their to much of "that element" missing/around & their there to be nature re-balance tool

Primal's are "thought givin form" with prayer & enouf "unused" aether (I say un-used cause I have yet to see someone use a high aether filled living Sprite as a mana sorce for Primal summon... which would be quite annoying if u could). Thou all are "Aether-made" its more a "How u make it" then a "what u made it with" rule for FF14... thou the thought of a boss using the Aether from defeated Sprite's to fuel a Primal/Arcane-egi summon does sound interesting in concept

If that was the case, why wouldn't the Elementals be chilling in La Noscea where Nym was located? Why travel all the way to the Black Shroud and Amdapor's territory? I know the three cities were in a three way war at the time but Nym for the most part was in a purely defensive war with Mhachi and Amdapor. It's a long way to travel and into deeply hostile territory for a summon to make, especially since the White Mages of Amdapor could have easily wiped them out.

Not saying your theory's bad, just that it might have a few logistical flaws.

The elementals have been said to have existed as far as before the founding of Amdapor. They've been in Black Shroud for who knows how long and they were the one who gave men the gift of white magic, and allegedly responsible to bring the Fourth Calamity. It's speculated somewhere in this forum that SCH fairies are lesser elementals, though if they can be categorized the same with the elementals of Black Shroud, is anybody's guess.

I don't recall where this is mentioned, but I seem to remember it said that sprites, plasmoids, are actually lesser voidsents but they lack sentience and only a threat unless they're threatened first. I think it's somewhere in the lore book, the scan which I can no longer find so please correct me on this.

I can't find that in the EE. It only says (p. 301) that plasmoids might be machina waste energy, since they've only appeared in the aftermath of Garlean attacks, and that sprites come into being in specific aetheric conditions, that they are wholly unrelated to elementals, and that they lack sentience.
