And I agree with Enur. Its cute but at the same time how was she able to give birth to a child if we are kinda in a time bubble? Still I like such nice little NPCs stories, makes the world feel alive.
Agreed. I just found out what happened to the Ishgardian trying to off themselves near the CWH hot springs this morning. They finally fell... And when you approach their body they say "Damned powder snow..." So there's one happy ending!

Now if only I could find those two kids at the Jeweled Crozier again. Last I saw them they were worried about getting the switch from their parents for spending all of the money they had for errands/groceries.

They now now appear in the stairs above the market (x8, y10 Pillars) and . . . well, the story gets even grimmer?

GDI Writing Team, why can't we have nice things?

The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day. But you are not here to see it..

So these two children just bought some sweets even though they know that their father was sick? Why did the mother send her children if those are so important? Could it be that its not that bad of a fever and she just wanted to teach her children some lessons on not just buying things because they want it? (I hope so)

...I just found the german version...nothing grim there..the children feel bad for spending the money on sweets and she just says that they hopefully learned a lessons and that they should go home and eat some vegetable soup. Nothing about sickness or giving them up to the goblins..I fear this is just another "english" version..it also does not make sense that they dont have money with what all three are wearing. >_>

I, for one, prefer the darker twists given how neatly everything else has been wrapped up in regards to Ishgard in the MSQ's and major side stories. Eorzea isn't a pleasant place to live and the illusion of greatness is shattered in these sort of exchanges.

Honestly, it reads more like her "threats" are the kind a mother might visit on wayward children without them actually being serious threats. More of a "the boogeyman is gonna get you if you don't eat your veggies and clean your room" Isghardigan/Eorzean style. They're in a richer part of town, dressed in nice clothing, and so is their mother...and missing popotos for a stew is hardly a life or death difference.

Unlike the English version of the Soap Opera (and I'm still curious about what the other NPC, the nobleman, says in the other versions), I don't think this one is meant to have a dark twist - she's disciplining them in a way that will set them on the "straight and narrow" by scaring them into doing what they are supposed to in the future.

This is almost entirely how I read it. They're in the Pillars, there's no want of money. Even if their father is sick and wanted popotoes for his stew I'm sure they could go buy some more. I also don't feel like the goblins are habitually buying Elezen children either. If you take the text at face value here, it seems a little grim I guess but it's important to put it in context. I mean they're nearly-literate children in the Pillars in finery; I doubt they're in danger. The mother is exaggerating one way or another: either to scare her kids straight or she's freaking out about the social change in Ishgard.

In a way, the couple's story doesn't really have a dark ending either, I like this sort of ending more, it doesn't paint it as a fairytale, the noblewoman left her life of riches behind to be with the person she loved, it's not surprising she feels like they're running low on money, when back in The Pillars she wouldn't have ever needed to worry about money. If this is the life she truely wants, she would eventually settle down, but at the moment, she's going through a bit of a culture shock.

So I watched the interaction again and made sure to get a close up on the mother's face - she actually smiles a little bit after the kids respond to the comment about selling them to the goblins and as she's talking about them checking the trash. I'm certain at this point that she's pulling their leg while getting ready to enact some motherly discipline so they aren't as irresponsible in the future.

I haven't had the time to take screenshots of the latest episode, but I will try to do so soon. If I can I will also look at the Japanese and German versions (my French is....eh... /fakefrenchaccent non-existant)
