Yeah, what I mean is that Parasite Eve lore didn't treat it as magic in the same way Final Fantasy does. Even in XIII, which is very sci-fi-ish, magic is not explained by science. In the case of PE, as Miles pointed out:

The acronyms might be the same, but what they mean is different. The magic in PE doesn't come from the planet or some supernatural force such as the Mist. It's not magic per say, but rather abilities granted by science.
