Stuff happens. If someone is really upset about not receiving what they deem as the "proper" service for a product they're paying for (and it happens often). Then logical thing is to quit paying for it and move on, maybe try to get a refund after unsubbing from the product.

If the traffic from a set of servers exceeds the clusters limitations, then boom.

This is all generalization, I have no idea how SE has the servers set up, but its a good example.
But let's say you take half of Bal and add it to my server Jenova, and half of Gig and put it into Siren, wouldn't that still cause the same issues? IF the issue pertains to overpopulation, how do you determine who gets moved off? It's not like people would be willing to abandon friends, fc, houses, and gil, simply because of being overpopulated. Even if you lock the server, the issue with all the data present on those two are still going to cause a crash, so how would SE determine who gets the boot to another world?

Granted there are very small world's like Gob and Mat on our center, that would benefit a migration, the issue is still present. How do you encourage people to go smaller? So really in my eyes, outside of just doing a massive hardware update which could be very costly and highly lengthy, anything done right now would just be pushing issues under the rug and hoping they go away.

When other MMOs have managed their maintenance schedules to one allotment of six hours a week (or wow's usual fifteen minutes a week) and FFXIV is taking down servers first, for 24 hours, then multiple time sin the days after, player faith in the company free falls. This thread is proof enough of that.

People expect maintenance. They don't expect multiple alotments that equate to well over one full day of maintenance.

You don't move them. You try to convince them to move with a free xfer and maybe some xp bonus for a week or something.

OK so this is a reach, and I admit it in advance, and this has very little to do with your singular post...

But cars used to not have seat belts.

Your argument suggests we should just accept unsafe conditions of cars or not buy them.

    Where does that get us?

Point being, why people get so up in arms for complaining when a service is not rendered to their very reasonable satisfaction is met with such undying loyalty to the brand is just so crazy I can't get my head around it. Someone please help me slurp SE like others do!

People want to play a game they have invested in. They want the company to improve the service that is very clearly failing them.

The idea that anyone is offended at this is contrarian at the very best.

You already accept unsafe conditions in cars. They're literally one of the most dangerous forms of transportation. When playing an MMO you should "expect" downtime. Especially durning/near patches. Complaining is fine, do what you want.

The thing is, with any online service, there is no way to guarantee a 100% uptime outside of advance-scheduled maintenance. That is exactly why all services like that include a clause stating that they do not guarantee the ability to access the services all of the time.

I'll leave you with this. Some of you are defending a product/company that made achievements in their last patch literally unobtainable because they don't even know how many items a miner can gather.

    But hey, continue, please.

    Defending? I'm reserving judgment, personally.
