Garo armor, why the gender restriction...

I like it. Not everything has to be available to everybody and it encourages the developers to focus on creating some gear that is specifically for one gender over the other. Quite a bit of gear that is designed for 'both genders' ends up being very feminine/androgynous which is fine in moderation but not great for those who prefer a masculine aesthetic.

I totally agree with you Theo, but.....they should have been the same item with different appearances? I mean as much as I love the female items (healer set, and bard head...) I really wanted to go male again this patch to rock those new weaves. It's just one of those things I guess. If the event is indeed permanent, then this whole debacle doesn't matter. I think people are in uproar because it may be timed, and people essentially (who fantasia) need to grind for 2 sets for the same job

I think it's annoying for practical reasons (easy to buy the wrong parts, problematic for people who fantasia, even more bloat for non-storable gear - all to preserve item names which nobody cares about - one of the male-only hats even has a massive typo in its name). And you have to admit, relaxing the in-universe genderlock on GARO armour for one of the sexes is exactly the same one-way bias we're always moaning about here...

But I'm guessing they aren't going to shift so all I'll add is that I'm very, very jealous of the female headwear. It's gorgeous! Can we have some non-GARO hats like that for everyone with similar (but not identical) designs? I don't like any of the ranged/caster/healer GARO hats for men at all, but the ladies got some beautiful alternatives which I'd love and they're not things that would be outlandish in any way outside of the collaboration. More than happy for the female characters to have access to the male-only headwear in reciprocation for even more mix-and-match goodness for everyone.

I do like the designs in general. The caster top looks great on me (the healer top looks terrible as it emphasises the neck and... I'm an Elezen). And now I need to finish working on NIN so I can rock that cool silver armour ._.

Why do hair ribbons have gender restrictions? Because SE likes imposing dumb restrictions on us and limiting creativity.

They clearly do, because I looked absolutely stunning in the WHM Esoteric gear with those long skin-hugging stockings and gloves, and the Astrologian Esoteric set is a gown and shawl which was specifically designed to look feminine (source: HW artbook)

My dress/skirt collection could fill an entire retainer. I can tie a pink bow around my neck and drape myself in gem-encrusted chains. We have one pair of stockings, but the rest are female-only even though they are the exact same shape and show just as much thigh. I can wear the plain skirt, but not the identical spring skirt because it has a bow - even though bows are fine on the asura/yasha gear. Half of the PVP animal gear is dangerously close to being overtly sexy (BLM) or a ballgown (SCH/SMN/WHM/AST). I can wield a bouquet of flowers as a weapon, and I can wear some types of colourful flowers in my hair, but at other times flowers are too feminine and forbidden (I can also wear them around my chest, but not on a straw hat unless it's a special kind).

I agree, I think they missed a massive opportunity with this gear to be some AMAZING filler gear for glamming of all kinds. However I think they missed the mark not only by gender restricting it, but job/class restricting. I would absolutely LOVE the healer/caster longgloves for my NIN and MCH glamours as this game has an absolute famine in regards to long-gloves for anything that's not a caster or healer. Why did they feel this needed to be job locked? A big missed opportunity for a good glamour event that would have added some awesome variety to all our jobs/classes. Instead we're getting the same things we have anyway (long-gloves for healers/casters which already have loads, skimpy shorts for BRD/MCHs which already have loads, heavy armour for tanks that already have loads etc...) this could have added so much variety. I really hope the MGP version of the event doesn't have these pointless job/class restrictions, but they will be undyable so it's hardly going to be as good...
