umm most jobs in ffxi were hybrids.
pld rdm blu dnc nin drk Just to name a few hybrids. Hybrids are not bad actually just the min/maxers felt they were useless and boss ppl in the game. I was a full rdm (dd/caster) and played the job fine.
every ff character was a hybrid.

do think before posting on anti hybrids. Hybrids are versitile. Dancer was an epic hybrid of melee/ cure/ debuff. They could solo/ tank if it was needed (on some stuff) main heal if needed and pull out some nice dmg if they could use their ws buffers.

Okay i will try , even if i think im loosing my time when you say dnc was a tank and that those jobs were hybrids.

Pld was definetly NOT an hybrid.Paladin is a tank, Damage mitigation, enmity tools and some healing(for enmity mainly) 75 pld , maxed gear almost
Rdm is not an hybrid, rdm is a Debuffer, with some elemental/healing skills.was 70 rdm
Blu and dnc perhaps could be called hybrids ,but in my eyes Blu --> damage dealer based on dmg type,stun lock beast.
Dnc i cant comment on, to me dancer was always pretty useless.Never touched this 2jobs(dnc and blu)

Nin is a DMG dealer based on SPEED, later on to be played as tank becouse of shadows, (never intended to be played this way.75 maxed gear.

Drk is a damage dealer and a stunner.NOTHIN MORE.75 maxed gear with a kraken club.

Care to show me were exactly says this jobs are hybrids ?

Im fine with some hybrids, but everything hybrids ? that is just plain boring.Why would i play a game were everything and everyone are the same ?

I've tanked plenty of NMs as my DRK inside and outside of Abyssea. Stun is useful, however most NMs as of late resist it flatout or has such a high resistance rate you're better off just sucking up the damage and recovering at times, especially if tanking.

DRK has the benefit of being the better tank than PLD even lacking full dmg mitigation -- You can also deal high damage, especially with Quietus which will let you hold hate better than a PLD can ever dream of holding -- Some NMs, say Smok, you'll do better with a PLD tank, but other NMs? My DRK tanked just about every NM including Iratham inside of Abyssea -- on the outside I'm always ending up tanking NMs even if I don't try it -- DRK isn't designed as a tank, but it takes a skilled player to play as one.

DNC is a great tank, curer and soloer, which is what a hybrid is, PLD? I don't think it's so much of a hybrid but it is a DD/Tank, since Sanguine Blade can be pretty powerful, even for holding hate which does include beating out Atonement.

Ahhh someone has seen the light... OR the darkness i should say ^^ I Loved tanking with my DRK and making PLD feel bad and week for getting one-shotted by spider special attacks ^^.

Hate to tell you, but all the advance classes except Ranger, Ninja, and Samurai were Hybrids. PLD is a WAR/WHM, DRK is a WAR/BLM, RDM is a WAR/WHM/BLM, so on and so forth. They may have all had their own special abilities no single class had, like PLD had Flash, RDM had Elemental sword attacks, Etc. That does not mean they were not hybrids. They just took knowledge from both worlds and combined them to form new special skills.
