Hmmm. Maybe if we change Blue Mage a bit. Or a lot. Instead of learning abilities you are empowered when you are hit. Resistance, parry, evasion, block chance....whatever. Now all we need to decide is what to do with the built up power- Heal or damage?I'm thinking tank, actually. We don't currently have a 'mage tank' (DRK doesn't count, it's just a sword-wielding fighter with some fancy dark abilities) and it would play well with the theme of taking hits. It could potentially be a very reactive-style tank with an ability that changes depending on certain circumstances (for example, being hit by certain types of attacks) as well as a set roster of other abilities taken from various enemies and bosses through the game - obviously tuned for players to use.
What if Ivalice is nothing more than a region outside Ala Mhigo? It would have some references to the Ivalice games with enemies in it, but just have the name as game reference and nothing more. Just as Eureka is going to be a zone.
I'm gonna say no. Based on what information we hav,e we can infer that Rabanastre is a city in Ilsabard and Dalmasca is a city in Othard. To put Ivalice on Aldernard, a third continent, would be very very dumb.
Seeing how job quests work already, it'll be just a standard quest where you do a task or a battle to learn a new ability.
So now that we know we are going to Othard, the place were Rabanastre is; I actually wonder if the new 24man raid could become part of the story leading us to Ilsabard in 5.0.
With them saying that raids will be linked to the main story more than Alex and Bahamut, I can definitely see the same happening to Ivalice.
However, I think they also said we will be fighting Garlemald at least up to 6.0. So I'm not even sure we will be going to Ilsabard in 5.0 already.
Or maybe Garlemald are also settled elsewhere.
This part of the encyclopedia bugs me at p92, Haragin tribe: "ancestors sailed out across the endless eastern ocean. The explorers are said to have returned with tales of terrible island covered in massive grey monoliths and Inhibited by fire breathing steel demons"
This, to me, sounds like Garlemald invaded the land at the East of Othard. Assuming Hydaelin is a sphere, I guess it is the New World. Edit : just checked 3.0 ending and it is indeed a sphere.

Dalmasca in the middle of Ilsabard, it was the first country the garleans conquered. I think Gaius is from Rabanastre or Livia quelled a rebellion there.
See I took the Haragin tribe text to be something Allag related, maybe even Seal Rock, lol
