It was a decision made by the company that operates the game in Korea, so it won't have any impact on the SE run game.
open world housing has been a bad idea since 1997, when ultima online tried it and soon, there were no spots left and the map looked like a giant suburb with monsters wandering around between houses, lol.
i know they want "neighborhoods", but then make 20-houses-instances. can then still access those instances via aetherithe, so no problem.
Yes server merger was decided based on KR company. But if we go back and pull up the threads about the dev teams decision on how they implement housing this exact situation comes up lot. How did they not see this playing out. Did they expect the company to shell out more and more cash to cover server costs for a poorly implemented system.
SE is now in a horrible situation they have dead servers and a few super servers that only get bigger. They can't provide houses, they can't merge servers, they can't move houses. I am sure they are hoping this cross server party finder will save them further embarrassment of current NA server situation. Let me tell people how it works in WoW dead servers stay dead with ability to join groups making instanced content doable. But the server is literally Barren (without any chuck jokes) you can go days with out seeing another player in anything but the newest content. This is on an original server.

The other option is for cross realm zones, what a lot of people seem to dislike with WoW lol XD. I think it is a good thing though, it's nice seeing people in areas even if they are from different servers.
I'm not surprised really: for one thing this means less expenses to run the servers and considering a lot of EU, NA and JP servers are pretty much barren (Glad I chose Balmung I guess, thanks .Hack for your guidance), I wouldn't be surprised if this happens here someday. Unless SB ramps the numbers back where ARR was (Aren't we at like 500k and less, basically half from what we had during ARR?), this might be an inevitable change.
I mean unlike "The Worst MMORPG of all time" (because saying its name is as bad as commiting a crime. Apparently) which can allow itself to run many servers at once because of its "millions" of players (I don't know how many, but it's high enough that merges aren't happening), FFXIV can't afford such a thing since that it has MUCH less, to the point where people can't even find enough players to play within their own servers. Heck even if I'm in Balmung I still can't find the stuff I want in PF either, and it's a populated one!
Either way, I am looking forward for the CR PF because I want to complete the trials before expansion hits and since it is nearly impossible for me right now, I'm putting all my hopes into the new feature.
....but I have a feeling it will disappoint in some ways....
Agree with Moonlite 100%From the way Dev's have talked housing wards right now are built into the core of the game. Every server has to be the same. This is not some vanity wings this is a whole zone built into the stability of the game. Meaning if KR needed the expanded wards it wouldn't happen till every part of the world gets it.
I have said from the very start that non instanced housing was an extremely short sighted and poor design. Whats happening to the Korean servers is but one example of that (and there are many more).
I feel very bad for them, I honestly do. It will hurt the game far more then help it. Not something the decision makers should feel proud about.
♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!
People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
None taken. ;D I am genuinely curious though what they'll do about it. Since wallpapers, lighting, flooring from events get destroyed and the choice was made to no longer include those on the event vendors. Now they're only available via the cash shop or insane mb prices if still available at all on the mb. That's a $5 (going off NA prices) item for something like the winter wallpaper or the bomb chandelier they may have just destroyed that isn't going to show up on the npc you recover furniture from.
You assume I lack any at all. Just like I couldn't care what laws get passed in other countries, regardless if they are amazing or incredibly terrible, I can't care what's happening on another server. I'm just saying, but please don't feel sorry for me.
I like how a few other people are echoing what I said, yet I'm receiving flack and passive-aggressive statements for it; must be because I said something first or people just don't like how blunt I was about it. I'm just a little sad and quite amused. Oh well, that's life.
It sucks, but it is what it is. I'm going to assume the companies involved in the Korean version of FFXIV are for-profit companies. In which case, if the population is declining, this is a very normal thing to happen. They have to cut costs somewhere. Does it suck? Yes. But it's clear they believed they could get away with it. I do feel for those who have invested a LOT into the house which is now gone without a trace, but at the end of the day, we don't own these pixels, we only pay for access to them. If it happens here, well, it'll suck, but what can you do about it. Hopefully they can re-code the housing infrastructure, maybe convert them into instanced neighbourhoods? Where it creates them dependent on need. Though I do say individual instanced houses are best. At least stick that in for the new areas (so if a server merge does happen, just chuck all the old houses that get lost into the new area so they at least still have them).
And let's not forget some disabilities that make it harder or even impossible to feel empathy/compassion.
EDIT: Oh jeez, just realised I necro'd by accident. Should have checked the timestamp of the last post, got my threads mixed up...
