That's why i love GW2 skills tree, you can play a job in a lot of different ways (even if some of them are more popular) and that would be a good thing to add imo.

Problem with skill trees is that there will always be a cookie cutter build that you will have to have in order to do endgame content, so that makes the skill trees kind of moot. We have seen how elitist people can be and I can already guess that there would be restrictions to what build you should have in order to do content.

    Yes and no.
It's a long design process but in my opinion it would add a lot of diversity.

Yes, elitists top players would always want to play this build but if i don't like it and prefer to play it in another way that would be up to me.
Since SE is prohibiting bans for using parsers and bad DPS there would no worries for a bit of diversity ^_^

And yet, even with WoW different specs play the same way. Your argument is moot.

Parsing isn't banned unless you use it as a way to harass someone. However, all the good statics use them, believe it or not. Just look at any of the world first groups, it's blatantly on their screen and S.E. does nothing to them.

I can tell you now that the best you'd ever get is DF groups playing that way. You'd never get into a single static of any worth playing "how you want." They would expect you to play the most efficient 'spec' or not at all. Which is why, right now, statics have their members play certain jobs or switch jobs after a patch, to use the most effective skills against a boss/raid.

yeah ff14s version of the spec system is pretty much just the job system, so I don't see the wow spec system fitting into this. Do hope to see some "uniqueness" to cross class skills/choices with the battle system revamp though....although I don't see it happening much if it does.

    Yes and no.
Some people like challenge, others like to play theway the want.

I was raiding in 3.0 to 3.4 as a Nocturnal Ast paired with a WHM when the WHM/SCH pair was broken and my static said "hey play what you want, if you master it there's no problem".

Make "specilizations" bringing around the same DPS (i mean number of dps using a parser) but in a different way/gameplay should be interesting.
But as i said, it's a very long design process that we will unfortunately never see

In FFXIV each job is its own "spec"

We can equate this to saying Holy Priest is a White Mage. All Holy Priests play about the same, just like all White Mages.

We have it so that instead of having one class fit many roles, its the many roles that fit many jobs. Wont be completely opposed to the idea of "specs" i just think it will be way too much work to balance them all. WoW can barely balance what they have and they have a much larger team to work with. And a larger budget.

Classes in FFXIV are for the most part perfectly balanced. No job is unable to participate in any kind of content, and all jobs each have a niche to fill.

Have you tried to raid as a Nocturnal Ast back in 3.0 ? That was pretty fun !
