good luck getting lots of kraken clubs, and grind/farm 24/7 for beastmen seals just to do a bcnm and luckly, maybe luckly you will get a kraken club from a 0.0001% of dropping it.

The reason it was relevant for years was only bc they offered best gear of some slots for YEARS, Byakko's Haidate, WLeg, Shura Togi. I am not going to tell you what is fun for you but doing same content for years isn't my type of fun.
What I was trying to get at was that it remained relevant up until Abyssea. You didn't have to do it for years and years (and no one wants to do the same thing to the point it becomes tedious), but new players coming into the game years after it had been implemented were still able to enjoy it, whereas in a lot of other MMOs new content often makes old content obsolete.

First off, thanks to the OP for taking the time out of his/her day (didn't check sorry) to not post a thread about the future of XIV being tied to subs. 2nd, omg yes I'd love sky/sea type zones yes please yoshi-p. People need to stop acting jaded.
It baffles me why a small minority burst sand forth from their lady parts at the mere mention of bringing ideas from XI to XIV, and yet XI was easily the best MMO I have ever played, period.
Some people really need to relax about 120 points.

Sky/Sea were pretty bad in my opinion.
Sky had so many LS competing against each other for time spawns sometimes you go there and get nothing accomplished. Then when RMT started to farm sky and monopolize U on almost every server so you have to buy the stone from them for like 5m that was pretty dumb as well.
Sea was pretty dumb in that it really only had what weapon skill+ torques, and some mab earring that blms wanted from JoL. The torques were pretty bad drop rate as well. Not to mention AV who was unkillable for years until they rasied the level cap and by that point his drops were pretty much obsolete. The same problems existed in that you might of had to compete with other people for spawns but not as much as sky since sea was pretty unpopular.
Abyssea was when they finally got it right in FFXI which was done by Yoshi P, but then he got moved to FFXIV shortly after.

It was only relevant for years because SE never added new gear that beat out gear that dropped in sky. Most MMOs add new content that obsolete old gear. SE never did this they added tons of items that were worse then sky gear and a lot of sidegrades like from salvage. It was not a good endgame system do to all the timed spawns and endless competition from rival LS, mpking and stuff made it rather unpleasant. People would try and drop aura status on you while you try to kill U, or how about the CFH on robots and make them blow up on you while you try and kill despot.
They finally came in with Abyssea which was an actual good endgame system. Which offered easy to get gear that was actually better then sky gear finally after 7 years, easy exp, gave both casual and hardcore players something to do. Competition isn't as bad as sky since most NMs were pop item nms. Few time spawn but not nearly as bad as sky and have 10 min respawn timers rather then 3 hours.
Sky and Sea are examples I use to this day in my reviews for games, as endgame that allows both solo progress and group progress to work towards the same goal (farming pop items to spawn gods). It allowed people to put the time in when they had the time, and not have to always be part of the kill itself for some items, such as the Osode. It was only relevant for years because SE never added new gear that beat out gear that dropped in sky. I earned mine by farming pops, and didn't actually have a Kirin kill on my character when I earned the Osode.
Hate on the zones as much as you will, but as far as design, mechanics and exploration goes, they were practically unparalleled. Sometimes I wonder what it is you people expect from these games, as you always seem to think you could do it 10 times better, but I have yet to see your games on the open market.
