The over the top Medieval speech that makes the English experience much different. That's the only point I've had with all my post. Its a much different game in english then the original.
    It's not. It's based on not using modern terms.

    That. Is. It.

    Some of those will be medieval terms, many of them won't be that old but still won't be modern.

    And really, if they were going with a medieval theme, we'd have things like this:

    Ye seken lond and see for your wynnynges,
    As wise folk ye knowen all th'estaat
    Of regnes; ye been fadres of tydynges
    And tales, bothe of pees and of debaat.

    That, ladies and gents, is from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. That is actual medieval speech.

    What you're thinking is Medieval is nothing more than the kind of fantasy speak used by authors like Tolkien, who might I remind everyone published his LOTR trilogy in the 1950s and wrote in a style of prose that belonged in the first half of the 1900s...not the 1400s.

    I can't write down more then 1000 characters. It absolutely is based on mideval themes. Again holmgang being an example. And it's not how it is in the original work was done. Not sure how you can't see it.

    So apparently (roughly from the Duelling Circle answer) "We decided in Final Fantasy XIV, at least in the English version, to use a lot of stuff from history, like to use older English terms that aren’t very modern; we go out of our way to make sure we don’t use modern terms" = medieval. Is that what you're trying to say? If so, then you're not really listening to what Koji is saying and choosing to ignore Berethos' arguments.

    Also, the MRD/WAR skill ホルムギャング roughly translates to Holmgang, unless Google Translate is lying to me.

    Koji Fox is saying they are using old English words which examples have been posted here in this thread. If you read the thread you can see that along with some people saying Shaekespere.

    "ホルムギャング" is written in Katakana here and phonetically spells out and sounds just like Holmgang "Ho Ru Mu Gya N Gu" It's supposed to directly sound like Holmgang as there is no Japanese translation in Kanji or Hiragana because it's not a word native to Japan. Katakana is used for foreign words outside of Japanese origin and Hiragana and Kanji are used for words native to Japan.

    Yeah, sorry, there really aren't in medieval themes present in the game anywhere except Ishgard. Just people speaking different dialects that get misconstrued as medieval.

    And now that I think about it, Ishgard has the Machinist guild. Guns and flying turrets that do not at all match a medieval setting o:

    That's true! So then does that make Ishgard steampunk medieval? Medieval steampunk? FLYING TURRETS!

    I'll admit, I do normally prefer the Japanese audio in some games, but this game just isn't one of them. The English localization is too good. :x Just my opinion, but the Japanese audio just doesn't sound... right. Characters don't really have much emotion.

    Its the medieval speech that is being discussed here and how off the top it is compared to the original Japanese work. The MCH presence in FFXIV has nothing to do with the genre that the English Localization team is forcing in its translation of dialogue, storylines, etc. That is why I keep saying that the English translation is very different from the Japanese work because of how old English it is.

    That strange feeling when people say the English you use daily is strange and forgan and old ;A;

    Phrases like prey tell and anyroad are still used today I use prey tell when I want to know more ;A;
    he'll to the people who say lominsians are hard to understand would have fun reading the written Scottish accent becuse that is close to Klingon to some

    Hell the people from Limsa lominsa have a accent similar to a few towns near where I live in the uk I read most In a Cornish accent XD

    I find it strange when people say the English is medevil, hell the only word I was happy to see them use was queer in the original context of something odd or unuseral in items like the "queer parchment"
