Maybe what this game needs is an addon like WoW has "Deadly Boss Mods" which basically gives you timers and warnings for boss special moves.
Well not now but in 2.0 when they actually have addons.

don't forget about recount, i stare at recount all day everyday when i deeps
I didn't play WoW myself, but I'm assuming you mean the bosses actually saying something like "I'm about to use <ability>!!"
I think that's ridiculous. If you can't pay attention in a boss fight, you shouldn't be able to win. I don't want the game to literally tell me when I need to dodge something.. I'm glad SE is slowly letting go of our hands.
Life is too hard so I can't form a competent strategy to kill a game boss?
Thats a pretty big stretch even for you.
People are really hard core about raiding in WoW. Deadly Boss Mods or similar addon is actually pretty much required if you raid.I didn't play WoW myself, but I'm assuming you mean the bosses actually saying something like "I'm about to use <ability>!!"

This is an addon that knows the timers for all the boss moves, through combat log analysis the creators have done. It will give you timers of each special move, while scanning the combat log for you when a boss is about to use a move and alerts you with a loud warning. For example this fire boss in WoW, Ragnaros has moves like engulfing flames covers 1/3 of the battle field in flames, there is a timer to tell you when hes going to use this and an alert will go out. Another move he has called magma trap has a timer for this as well where a flame circle is put on the ground that will blow up if your standing in it so you have to move as well. Another ability he has called sulfurus smash where he pounds his hammer into the ground and create waves of lava you have to dodge, so the added will have a timer of when he is going to use it and an alert that pops up on the screen so you know to dodge it.
If you don't use deadly boss mods or similar addon in this game you have a harder time with raids then someone who uses it.
When FFXIV supports addons and people have enough combat logs to be able to analyze timings of abilities they probably can have a similar addon for 14. For example if ifrits moves are analyzed to the point can have an addon with timers so you will know when hes going to use a special attack and the addon will make a loud noise to alert you so you know not to be doing stuff and be ready do dodge whatever it is.
Kinda the reason I wouldn't want to see this. I like hard fights, no matter where the difficulty comes from, as long as it's functioning properly and as intended.
Addons like these are just a crutch that should not be required. Unfortunately, since SE announced that they will be allowing addons, I'm pretty sure someone will make something like this. And when they do, it'll become a requirement for nearly all endgame shells.
It's too bad that people can't accept hard fights (what they asked for) for what they are, and not have to rely on things likes visible timers to win. I guess I'm part of a dying breed though![]()
Since Deadly Boss Mods became so popular and most raid leaders required it, even for PUGs, Blizzard specifically designed Cata raids around DBM. Essentially, since they knew the playerbase was going to use it, it is basically required to raid now since they tweaked new encounters to be ridiculously hard without it.I didn't play WoW myself, but I'm assuming you mean the bosses actually saying something like "I'm about to use <ability>!!"

Also, you think it's ridiculous, but since you haven't played WoW you don't really understand it. It will say, "Run away little girl, run away" when the boss is about to do some huge AoE that will likely 1-shot anyone it hits. It will flash on the screen, "Ability in 3 sec, stop moving," or, "Ability in 3 sec, keep moving," stuff like that. It will tell you who the boss bombed and put a skull over their head so you don't suicide by running next to them.
WoW's combat is so fast paced that it's nearly impossible to pay attention to everything based on watching the boss. You're already watching your hotbar, watching the ground for fire, watching your dot timers, watching your cooldowns, watching your mana and health, and I'm sure other things I'm forgetting. It's not like XI and XIV where you just stand around between spell casts. You're chaining spells as soon as the last stops.
It would be stupid in a game like XI where you didn't need it. Bosses used abilities what, every 30 seconds or so? The only fight I can think of where it would have been useful was Kirin, "Astral Flow in 5 seconds, run away!" Even then, it wasn't needed because you could eyeball his health and pretty much prepare for it coming.
WoW fights are still hard, even with the addons. WoW with DBM still has harder fights than anything I encountered in XI. Bosses shouldn't be artificially difficult nearing impossible, like AV was. That's bad game design. You can't really comment on the difficulty of WoW fights based on what your preconceived notions of DBM is when you haven't played endgame in that game.Kinda the reason I wouldn't want to see this. I'll be suprised if they allow UI mods to this extent, it gives a distinct advantage to PC players over the PS3 crowd that will eventually move in as well.
Although in reality DB-Mods just take out the hard work of memorizing how the boss behaves, still sucks for people who have to learn the hard-way when the PC players (For the most part) are going to let a UI overlay hold their collective hands.
