Google Translate shows that the mount in question is indeed called "Phoenix," but that's Google Translate... it may not be entirely accurate.

Also, I really do hope they'll be allowing Sephirot and Nidhogg's mounts to be purchased from Bertana. It would make sense considering they did the same for Thordan, Ravana and Bismarck, and it's been quite some time since they've released some.

It is not a Phoenix. It doesn't even come close to one. And it can't even be a Phoenix because of Lore.

I said phoenix MODEL. As in the design very much reminds people of Phoenix or else we wouldn't have this discussion in the first place.

I don't think anyone's making the assumption that we're riding around on Louisoux; except the people who feel compelled to keep saying it's not. "Phoenix", while a specific entity in FFXIV, is typically a name for an entire species. Thus, as we do not know the actual name for this specific mount, it's natural to default to calling it by its obvious inspiration; even if that name is already taken by an individual in the setting (which it shares its appearance with).

How this can be so confounding to people, I find utterly mind-boggling.

I would've preferred a "snow" bird but phoenix is nice
