624 for goring bladestill you can only match dps with the worst damage dealers, because tanks have low damage multipliers. so yes tanks aren't very strong. you have 1 skill that's 500potency, that doesn't mean tanks are strong, the rest of your skills are weak.
ya and that's the problem, you can't get hit by tank/healer skills, cause they don't target you, so...you can only learn damage skills then...fail.
care to explain how?
goring blade has 600+ in total, so mehi like my chainsaws
On the topic of whips and Blue Mages... if RDM can go full on Bloodborne, I say so can BLU.
Image behind a link because blood, I guess.

Blue Mages have used spears, guns, fans, and sabers. Its open.
Anything but a mace/club, please. So brutish and ugly.

I really want a Sword Whip kinda thing for Blue Mage.

Though the idea of dual swords for BLU is appealing...

I think we're fine.
You don't need to be doing MNK DPS to be considered 'strong'.
See where MNK is right now in the meta.
You can still have high potency on your moves but not deal the damage as consistently as DPS classes but still be considered 'strong'.
See War/Drk.
As far as thematic goes, BLU as a tank can still have this "high impact" damage(See Fell Cleave, Carve and Spit, Goring Blade) and still be balanced as a tank. It's just numbers in the end.
Just because DPS classes do more DPS than tanks does not make them 'stronger'.
See PVP/Duel.
Believe it or not, but tanks have more damage moves then they do defensives or enmity control. So this notion that BLU would only learn defense moves or enmity generation moves shows what little people know about tanks.

Just because BLU needs to be hit to learn spells doesn't mean it's going to be a tank, that's just silly. One, once BLU learns a spell it knows it forever it's not like classical Geomancer blue spells are static. Two, SE is not going to make players get hit by attacks on purpose in the middle of group content.... that would be a nightmare. BLU is gonna learn it's spells though job quests or though a gimick like ninjitsu or cards, they can be w/e role.
