Now this here is an issue. Look up the definition of Samurai. People need to own the fact that what they are really pleading for is less responsibility. You are correct in that adding a hundred Tanking jobs wouldn't make it any more popular, however you are wrong in believing series hallmarks like the Genji armor, Drawout skills, Cyan (a literal Knight of Doma), Seigan + Third eye, are just a few of many staples if the job and series, by all means look that up as well. Samurai in FFXI was a Tank, the path of least resistance made Ninja a Tank and reversed it's intended function there.

As important as your enjoyment of the game is so to is the that of a populace not represented enough through all mmo's. DPS are a dime a dozen, with more options than any other role. Even when it come to cultural representation. Should not an Eastern job show that can also Tank? Or is that the providence of Warriors and Knights? I guess Samurai in your book could never stand among them in vanguard then? An argument often used is that no roles exist in non online offerings of the FF series, however in most cases a Samurai could use heavy armor... imagine that. In FFXI as stated before it was meant for the front line. If we take the definition of Samurai it means what? So tell me again, apart from anime Ronin what definitions of Samurai are you going by?
