So, what's everyone's take on this?

I for one, am very sad to see that they will essentially be axing the current plot in it's entirety as of version 2.0 with no way to replay it. At the same time I understand why, and even look forward to it - but I will still deeply miss the current world that Komoto and Tanaka envisioned.


As my highest rank is only 15 GLA/LNC (for combat), I guess it's time to just stop crafting and bust my butt leveling or something. I really, really want to see how this story arc plays out before they scrap it. Plus I'm going to remake my character as a Miqo'te Male when 2.0 comes out and start over with my friends I guess - maybe keep my current as a mule? Of course, that's provided I can get my buddies who are waiting on the updates to come to figaro...


So what's everyone else's feelings on this then? Personally, I would like it if SE could maybe release a DVD or something showing off the entire plot of this era, or otherwise include a way of viewing it in 2.0 without actually participating.

I'm also bothered by the recent changes to the music in the areas as well - why did they feel the need to just spit on Nobuo's hard work? I like the new Ul'dah theme, but I much prefer LL's old one, and a lot of the music in general - I felt that was one of the few areas they really got right and it seriously meant a great deal to me, as a long time FF Fan, to finally have Nobuo at the helm again.

Regarding music; It's merely the event that's running for the grand companies. It ends in two days times, so then (hopefully) the old music comes back in. I love the music as well, but again, this is all situational at the moment. Once it gets back to being usual stuff (i.e. events are relatively toned down) then the normal themes will be back.

You should know that very few of the "new" songs are actually new. Most of them are BY Nobuo Uematsu and have been in the game since the very first data mine back in Alpha. Recently, they've just radically changed when and where the music plays. Most of the songs were only heard once or twice EVER; during quests and inside certain instances.

If you feel that a lot of the music pales in comparison to Nobuo Uematsu's standard, it may just be that he's past his prime (DEARGODDON'THITME).

You know, I had very few qualms about the game originally. The UI lag and the non-searchable MW were the only things that bugged me. All I wanted was more content. Now this game is very different, and despite Yoshida saying he wouldn't do a wipe, making all our gear dated and removing physical levels was pretty much a rollback. I don't even want to know how many hours the people that developed the original crafting and repair systems put in, striving to make it as realistic as possible, only to have their work rendered pointless by replacing them with dark matter and nonsensical synths. Now it looks like it's going to be the same way for the story. What's the point of all the development done so far if it just gets wiped away? Seems kind of pointless to me. The past few days I've been trying to collect nodes I didn't have yet, but what's the point if they're just going to be gone in a year as well? I want to see the rest of the story, too. I got to rank - sorry, I mean level - 42 last night so I could see the second-to-last mission. I could have played all day today but since the v.2.0 announcement, my motivation to play has kind of waned. Sorry for the longish rant that really didn't go anywhere. Suffice it to say I'm going to miss Eorzea classic, hopefully someday we can have private servers or a time-progression server that lets people play the game as it was originally conceived.

Well I for one and glad I get to experience something that will never again happen in the game. My only concern is I wont be able to experience it all. I dropped my ls due to a combo of the group always being on vent, even when we are just standing around, and worse...drunk and on vent, and a lack of any activities so I have been stuck soloing my pug and con up via leves. With the search function broken for now and the severe lack of any /sh I find myself doing little to nothing, /sigh I hope I dont miss out

Again, I rather liked the original game as well, and feel like it just needed more time. It's got to be devastating to K&T, to see their vision, their baby, basically scrapped and completely remodeled.

Yeah it was kind of a pain carrying around so many items for repairs, but I liked the sort of realism it brought - along with the extra dependence on DoH & DoL classes, keeping them just as relevant as the DoW & DoM.

Honestly, I'm somewhat surprised they aren't going to just rollback our characters completely. It's going to be similar to FFXI all over again, when the JP had a 2-year head start on us NA players. It just seems so wrong, given the dramatic changes that are going to occur. I mean, what the hell? We're starting fresh in a new world - but with pre-leveled characters? What?


On the flipside, a wipe would really piss a lot of us off. I'm already kind of miffed that I'll be axing my character (largely because I can FINALLY play a Male kitty, something I've been waiting for since XI came out) though that doesn't bug me too much so long as I can transfer my gil etc etc (so I'd make a mule then delete the original character I guess idk). Never mind the effects this could have on the economy, though pre-established prices & standards could be a good thing.

It's all just a bit much to absorb at the moment.

Just so people know cus its seems some missed this:

The new graphics engine will cause certain objects to display differently than they do in the current version. Because of this, we will allow all current players the opportunity to re-customize the race, gender, and appearance of their characters upon the implementation of the new engine.

Its sad to see, but i'm looking forward to the new changes coming.

This would be amazing. It would actually explain a lot of new players, and allow for an amount of time to elapse between the seventh umbral era and whenever 2.0 takes place.
