I certainly hope that purchasing a story skip potion will NOT be required to access the new jobs in a reasonable amount of time. Ideally they become available as soon as you hit 30 on any class.

I didn't ask for if they are dropping numbers or not. I am asking about the jump potion itself. If you have absolute proof if the potion actually made people quit the game. If WoW lost a decent amount of subs because of it. So far unless you have a source to show me, you are making a baseless accusation.http://download.gamezone.com/uploads...scriptions.png
Someone made a nice little graph with the reported subscription numbers of WoW - they used to publish them regularly, until they hit 5,6 million and stopped for obvious PR reasons. If you look at the graph, the dots are reports and they've been stretched out as time passed, possibly for similar reasons as why they stopped them entirely later.
This is just one source for the graph by the by, you can find lots of similar graphs over the net if you google "WoW subscription count". WoW never really cared to conceal their subscription numbers until they've plummeted too far.
I'd like to agree but unless wording was off, it seems the new jobs will be gated once again behind the expansion, if not then all good I'd say for those who are joining for the job alone.

I don't even have an interest in trying to prove that, because that's the opposite of my argument - my argument is that people have been quitting WoW at a fairly steady rate for years and that there is no evidence that the jump potion has had anything to do with that.
Going by the original statement: we shouldn't have to worry about that. Looks like leveling potions will not be for the new jobs, just old.
Neither and both. lol? Most my gripes with this are not directed at players. So I guess I wanna ask, what is it that angers people more. The idea of someone paying just to get to 60 or the idea of someone skipping the story just to unlock the new jobs yet (I believe) still be level 1 in Stormblood area (yet need 30 to unlock the new ones perhaps?) . I ask cus if I were brand new, I think that would be the route I choose myself to just unlock the area that has the job I want. Once the new jobs are released I know some people here may instantly buy a potion and jump there SAM or RDM to 60 instantly (instead of 30 I assume) but myself, Id rather level it normal cus I feel that is how I learn but not everyone is the same,
So is it both aspects of it, the story or the sudden high level?
If I had to answer though, as a personal feeling, I would say people buying levels bothers me more.
In regard to the story skipping potion, people wanting to skip story doesn't bug me, what bugs me more about that, is the current state of the game for players that do not, giving off the impression of intentional time blocks via fluff/fetch to entice people to buy them, even if they otherwise would not want to. (If that makes a lick of sense)
With that said unlocking areas via story (Given its linear nature), to get to jobs is stupid in the first place. It should be either a quick side quest that allows entry, or the unlock npc should be located in a spot that is accessible to anyone with the expansion. If the job starts at 30 it should require only having a 30 class already (not like any of that matters with potion all bets are off.) lol
Edit: I know some of this falls out side the scope of what you were asking.

Me: "Aww man I'm clicking all the wrong buttons tonight!"
Friend: "You're i190, you can't click a wrong button unless it is no buttons"
Me: "lol"

This... Is troubling... I want to point something out to the pro-potion crowd. Jump potion is the devs solution to gating content, and yet they are still continuing to push the gating of content (despite negative feedback from HW even to this day). Should we not be fighting to have them stop gating content rather than supporting the band aid fix that hinders the game in the long run?
it didn't stop people from quit the game. its there.
i know of 2 people that used it got to end game, no one wanted them there so quit the game.
i know f one more that played from lvl 1 and have a good time.
This has been the crux of my argument the entire time. It's unsettling and frustrating that SE created a problem and the solution so many of us seem willing to accept is that SE charges us more money for a surface-level work-around.This... Call me old fashioned, but I fail to see why gating content behind story progression is such a big problem and why there's such a large amount of pushback for it.This... Is troubling... Gating content is part of most games, why is it a problem with MMO's?
