Someone here suggested hyperthreading being useful for this game. From what I read, hyperthreading does not help performance in this game, and that's true for most games. So an Intel i5 6600k is a good alternative to the Intel i7 6700k and costs ~$100 less, unless you use applications that do benefit from hyperthreading, such as video encoding, streaming, graphic design, etc. A 6600k cpu and 1060 gtx gpu should be able to get constant 60 FPS everywhere except highly populated areas with 30+ players, I'm guessing it will drop down to 55fps at worst with some occasional stutter trying to load other players.

The CPU recommended by SE is a 2.66GHz i5, so I think it's the i5 750. The i5 750 being a 4-core/4-thread CPU, I would believe FFXIV is optimized to - at least - use 4 cores or threads benefit from a PC using 4 cores or threads.
About muti-threading, I also understand that logical cores - added threads, by software or hardware - will only theoretically offer 100% more power; maybe more often 30-40% more. (Correct me if I am wrong!) So more threads can help, but not that much; hence the feeling games aren't optimized for extra logical cores.

So I think 4-core CPUs are maybe the best to start with, as an FFXIV build.
The i5 6500 or 6600k are 4/4 CPUs. With those:
    - can anyone get to 100fps mostly everywhere (and maybe then 60fps at least);
    - can anyone manage to get at least 60fps in Idylshire (limiting players shown)?

If you can't, it's good to know too!

Visual effects may vary! As long as +60fps or close is obtained, it is interesting to know what might be sacrificed

Also, Can one confirm the average framerate required to stay at +60fps when it drops? Is it around 100fps?

I've run with an i7 3930k and it used as many Cores as I could throw at. So I wouldn't recommend anything less than an i5 2500

Ie. XIV is more of a single-core/thread game whereas the characters process benefits from all threads available? So if I want to keep a good framerate in Idyllshire, I need as much threads as possible; and they'll keep quiet in 4-player dungeons?

I haven't compared this to an i3 Dual Core with Hyperthreading although it could be limited by processing power anyway because I have used one of those G3250 Anniversary CPUS (Dual Core Haswell that you can overclock) @ 4.5Ghz and it was terrible being constantly pegged at 100% usage.
To players who have +8 cores/threads:
Does your framerate lower much in really crowded places?
Does XIV benefit from most of them or does it work mainly on a few?

Sorry for the hijack, but I'm looking for 1440p @ 60fps. Got an i7 6700k. Would an RX480 8gb cut it?

Also, has someone tested XIV with AMD's new Ryzens? Can they handle Idyllshire? Does your framerate vary a lot between sparsely and highly populated places?

    Hi!

    Has anyone tried AMD's Ryzen 5 1500X and 1600X?

    Can they keep 1080p60 everywhere?

    Display limits!

    Hi!
On PC, we can improve the frame rate by reducing the CPU workload :
System Configuration > Other Settings > Display Limits
(that on a PS4 would be great)

By default, I found it at "Maximum"

Most of the time, lowering it didn't do anything, maybe because most of the time the quantity of characters and objects displayed already matched lower settings and my CPU didn't bottleneck. But, at highly populated places (now Eulmore), that quantity is huge! There, my CPU bottlenecks and selecting a smaller quantity has an effect.

With a Ryzen 3 2200G (CPU only), the "Minimum" settings could enable 60fps. (for now.)
And a steady frame rate matching a monitor's steady refresh rate is soooooo good!

So, what limit do you need to get that steady 60fps everywhere?
    Post your CPU/GPU/Limit!
