It's hard to really get an idea of Monk's standing in A12 because most Monks stay outside the portal adds to continue hitting the boss.
What I do see here, is the number of DRG parses being nearly double the amount of Monk parses. That number really puts things into perspective on how popular the job is in raiding currently.

In terms of personal DPS monk is both theoretically and practically better than DRG.

Personal dps, monk is at the top for melee

Utility however is nin, drg is between those two

The statement "Monk is better than DRG" is just wrong and there's little to no reason to ever bring a Monk when you could bring a NIN (or a DRG in this case, but DRG is mandatory anyway).

uh got no proof right now but as we jumped in creator savage (a9s) for the first time our mnk was on 2400-2600 on Faust with an ilvl around 255-260... now he should be even more powerful... sadly he left our static after we cleared a10s... -___-

Because a lot of people don't know what they're talking about. Monk brings less raid dps than dragoon.

Monk maybe the top dps for melee but you must remember not everyone can play monk flawlessly, probably only like 5% can reach that superb dps number

Playing monk can be difficult, people say ez class, op dps, ez pz rotation yadayada for monk, yes for them but how about you? As monk you must keep remember your positioning, de/buff timer, ogcd, rotation, GS, all that under constant pressure getting hit by red zone or misscalculated the GS timing because lol phase

Unlike drg or nin, doing combo ignoring position only cost them potency, monk however cost them the additional effect which why positioning is a must for monk

what are you smoking? MNK loses nothing except potency when they miss a positional, except maybe bootshine but even that is a straight potency loss. DRG loses 90 potency for every missed WheelingThrust/Fang and claw, 70-88.5 potency for every missed Heavy Thrust. These numbers are almost as bad a loss as MNK lol. Do you know whats worse for DRG? you lose Geirskoguls 200 potency with no way of getting them back if you miscalculate/unnecessarily delay your BOTD or if you didn't plan for a particular mechanic. The penalty is in the same ballpark as MNK.

I daresay DRG is much harder because you have to do everything a MNK does AND maintain a very strict buff alignment such as IR with BOTD and Power Surge, double Geirskoguls under BfB etc etc otherwise your competitive DPS goes out the window.

And the real bonus? DRG's positional is random and their oGCDs can get them killed.

And you know why so few can reach those magic MNK DPS numbers? its partly to do with skill, its mostly because they all need exceptional teams that can execute the fight perfectly so that their MNK has to do as little as possible and has an easiest time possible hitting those positionals. Even stuff like making sure the HyperCharge+Trick Attack timings are favourable for the MNK makes all the difference.
