It's a female miqo'te a lot because they are the most played race.

Followed closely by female Au'ra.
Personally I think this supposed 'waifu' thing is being vastly overstated by those who don't understand why female Miqo'te and Au'ra are more popular than Roegadyn. The funny thing is though, even if it were not being overstated, and a very many people played female Miqo'te and/or female Au'ra because of the 'waifu' thing, all it would do is re-emphasize the reasons for selecting Miqo'te and Au'Ra females more often than others for event art.
But there's not really anything wrong with letting Roegadyn or any other race that isn't a cat/horn girl play the leading role, is there? Nothing wrong with a little difference.
I'll laugh if the Lalafell are suddenly replaced by a Miqo'te for Little Ladies Day, though... maybe.
Nobody's saying that female Miqo'tes and Lalafells should be removed from posters though. Let's just place them on a secondary role and put other races and genders on the "lead". Some people like to see male curves just as much as female on summer events. Some people think Elezen can be classier than Miqo'te to represent Xmas. Would be nice to see a race as filled with energy as Roegadyn representing a New Year's promo art. I would love to see highlanders of both genders for Moonfire events. It's kinda sad that there's a lot of people out there that don't even know we have Roegadyn, Elezen and AuRa as playable races because the promo artwork always features female Miqo'te, Hyur midlander and Lalafell. This isn't FFXI, we can have male cats on artwork too, SE.
No one's gonna stop to play the game if there's a Roegadyn on a promotional art. So the whole "it's because it's the most played race/gender" thing is kinda frustrating.
It's going to happen, since the devs keep forcing more miqo'te kittens at usBut there's not really anything wrong with letting Roegadyn or any other race that isn't a cat/horn girl play the leading role, is there? Nothing wrong with a little difference.

This year's Moonfire promo art featured a Roe, Elezen and Midlander.

I guess the fact that people are forgetting this says a lot about why they don't do it more.
Or it could be the fact that the Moonfire is a very generic poster. This year's Moonfire promo art featured a Roe, Elezen and Midlander.

It's not so much that people have a problem with them catering to the GCD, but more so that everyone else feels like their race gets the finger in the process. Surely they can keep the majority happy while at least attempting to acknowledge there are other races. It's not sad. It's called business. It has nothing to with undermining a certain race. People want cute waifus more. The company just simply caters to the greater dominator. Which happens to be Miqo'te.
The top image is all characters created which includes bots. That's why male Hyur is so high. The second image is active players. This chart here shows that female Miqo'te and female Au Ra are the most picked races among active players.
Cat girls/Au Ra girls are just much cuter for artwork than a bulky Roe.
Its really easy to understand why they use those more in artwork.
