I don't find most gear upgrading (through tomes, drops, or even crafting) to be quite as satisfying as leveling. It's just a jump from one piece of gear to another. But I'm quite enjoying leveling up my Relic weapons. That's another long series progression, with a sense of continually advancing in power.

Part of the joy comes from the games recognition of hitting the next level (the Level Up effects).

Honestly, I'd rather they look into the Merit Point system from XI. Give exp a reason to still exist at max level.

The problem with a Merit point like system is that it either results in people being expected to have a certain lvl of Merit points earned to do content by the player base, making entry into the system harder for new players particularly as time goes one, or the benefits are so minor that people generally don't see the point in them.

Power level is very important in a Vertical progression game and content has to be balanced around the achievable power levels a player can reach. Thus if a system like Merit points has any impact on power at all it needs to be factored in, resulting in reaching certain levels in it becoming a prerequisite.

Learn all your jobs properly. It's very easy to level them, especially using POTD. It's another thing entirely to be proficient at each one.
