Except that's not how it works, it's to do with habitat. Keepers of the moon tend to come out at night and live in the dark. It has nothing to do with astrology, and the lore isn't changing to accommodate that.

This game has a tightly woven lore that we cant whimsically throw away because "I want a new subclan"

A better way to handle it would be foreign races, imagine going to othard or merycidia and discovering that Mi'qotes there evolved very differently (I.e. like regional ethnicities in the real world)

Star bunnies tend to live in space. The ears are used to collect solar radiation, which is turned into exotic space dancing..

I feel everyone is overlooking the seafolk suggestion, who doesn't want fish-lala hybrids?

I'm glad they will not add any new race into the game. Most people play as Hyurs and Miqo'te. AuRa ended up as a slightly different Miqo'te race with just different tails. Adding another Hyur like race with just different tails is not the way to go and it doesn't solve any problem. Instead it only creates more problems. AuRa are yet to "fit" better into Eorzea. The wild card of the "outsider" race cannot be used more than once to explain a race that doesn't quite belong. They need to enhance the customisation of current races. They need to overcome those "limitations thing" with character customisation screen. We need more options. Got sick seeing clones everywhere like is a game of the past decade.

The person playing a hyur says there's a problem.
There's no problem. Races in Eorzea are like in real life, slightly different. Are real life races wrong because they're only slightly different?
If roegadyn looked like they look in FFXI I would never play them.

Replace "race" with "species" then and his point has validity.

Also, this is a game not real life... can't exactly compare the two as equals.

Is it really so difficult to draw connections to the Twelves Wood and Eruyt Village(FFXII)? A whole other plane of existence could be hidden by the elementals, reserving Viera as the go between for Seed Seers? Or perhaps even the equivalent of the Padjal in Othard or Ilsabard. It's not like the series has never set precedent for a race hiding themselves using magic to separate their world from others (see Espers FFVI).

    (From FFXII)
Eruyt Village (エルトの里, Eruto no Sato?) is a location in the land of Ivalice in Final Fantasy XII. "It is the home of the viera, and is deeply connected to the forest. Only the viera can reveal the hidden path to it, as its pathway is covered in "Vision Dust," which is harmless to viera but clouds the minds of all other races. Only women live in Eruyt Village, as the Ultimania guide states males live elsewhere."

    (From FFXII)
"The viera only meet in the town's center near the middle of the day and the rest of the time they will sleep around the forest, guarding its trees. The viera, Jote, Fran's elder sister, is the closest thing they have to a leader. Since the village is part of the forest, the viera refer to it as a living being. Whether the village actually has a will of its own is debatable, but the viera in it certainly seem to think so.
Hidden village of viera in Golmore Jungle. Viera enclaves are scattered throughout the jungle, but all are warded against entry by those of other tribes or lands. Viera are reclusive by nature, living separate from their own kind, save when necessity demands. This isolation is in part made possible by the viera ability to hear the spirit voice of the Wood, and thereby know all the comes to pass within Her borders. Throughout the history of Ivalice, rarely have the Viera ventured beyond the borders of the Wood, and few outsiders know of their laws or customs. Vieran villages are formed of massive trees linked by suspended paths, with dwellings and small shrines to the spirit of the Wood encircling the trunks. During the day, many Viera come to a clearing in the village, where a glistering spring bubbles up from the earth, to meditate. Their leaders resides in the center of the village and governs according to the Word of the Wood. Those who perform the sacred ceremonial duties of salve-maker or wood-warder stand at her side, defending the ways of the village and of the Viera. Compared to other races, the Viera seem to move at a slower, more contemplative pace, more at peace with the flow of time. However, some younger Viera have begun to question the wisdom of rejecting change in the midst of a rapidly developing Ivalice."

If Elementals had been hiding the Viera, then we would have seen their village the moment ARR launched. The Calamity severely weakened them (Greenwrath/Woodsin is pretty much no longer a thing to fear).

Anyway, why copy and paste their lore from a completely different world (that's pretty lazy. Lazier than what they'll be remade into)? Why not give them new lore? Especially since they're not going to look as unique as their Ivalice counterparts if they're made playable in this game. Rabbit ears and something similar to an Elezen body is what you're getting. New faces are a given.
