I personally like the idea, but there needs to be a cost associated to it and it needs to be (marginally) more than if the person were to use an NPC to repair. If the gear was to go over 100% (like when players repair their own gear) then SE also wouldn't have to worry about people using it to trade vast amounts of money across servers (as you would literally have to do 100% damage to get back to a position where you could repair again and for the time involved for the small amount involved...).

With the higher repair cost it also encourages people to get in the habit of repairing gear before going in. I believe repairs in instances should be more of a "in an emergency" than expected behaviour.

What's weird is you can still use the auto-translate to ask someone to repair your gear, but the feature never made it to the 2.0

It's a shame, it was really useful to have someone able to repair what you couldn't.

From what I recall, while you could self-repair, you couldn't do it in dungeons because it required you to change classes to the specific crafting class to do the repairs. We lost the ability to repair for others when they removed this requirement.

I can see it now. They'll add in the feature, expecting it to be used in the way we all want, and then as soon as the servers come up the forum will be flooded with complaints from people on certain NA servers about how players are coming into dungeons with full inventories of trashed gear just to fiddle around at the start swapping sets and getting it all repaired to trade money illicitly between worlds. And they'll do it in groups with PUG members too so there'll be rants about timewasting roulettes thrown in.

Seriously though I don't mind doing it for free as an option, it's not exactly expensive and the person getting the repair can be asked to pass on some treasure or something in return. Or just make it so the person getting the repair pays a high fee but it's not given to the repairer, while repairing for others in dungeons costs no materials. Or something.

I would like this, it would work like materia melding, as in the person that wants item repaired needs to have some dark matter in their inventory.
(Unless they changed that bit, it's been ages since someone asked me to meld things).

I had no idea this was once a thing, why remove it? & I do agree it should have some "trade" or requirements (like Meimi_chan's idea of it being like getting players to meld for u, u have to have gear & item(s) player provides service/option, granted in open-world u have to "be" said craft needed to meld eather way... maybe add a safe zone at dungeon start that allows class changes for repairs but all memebers must be back in "Qurried" class to leave... unless undersizing or missing members)

What some see as "distracted" is really "fathoming the unfathomable" - last words from an Ul'dahn Mercurial Chemister at the battle of Carteneau

Fantastic idea, now i am not only waiting for the people that don't skip cutscenes, or for the ones that take 20 minutes to just buff up, no now i am waiting also on the people that would like to have their gear repaired, because leveling a crafting profession or stopping at an npc right before an dungeon run or raid was to much to ask for. And that's why it was removed in first place...

Nah, we've never been able to repair other peoples' gear since 2.0. The auto-translate is a relic.

Sure would be nice though. Just use the person's own dark matter, just like melding uses materia and carbon from their inventory.
Though, you can't meld materia or trade in duties, so maybe that's a technical roadblock.

I would really, really like to do this for my forgetful raid peeps who don't always remember to repair before we go in.

Not even necessary. They've already changed the rule on repairing so that we no longer have to change classes. We only need the right DoH class leveled to the appropriate level, and can then repair (our own) gear no matter what class/job we have currently active. They could keep that change while letting us repair other players' gear, and then it would work in dungeons, just as the self-repair already does.

So, instead of: Level your crafting and you can repair your gear. No more needing to leave a duty because of broken gear.
It becomes: Level your crafting, and you can ensure that everyone you're with has working gear. No more having to abandon a duty because a teammate left when their gear broke.

(Whether you can charge for it is kind of immaterial. I suppose if somebody actually wanted to they could, but I don't really see that being much of a thing.)
