How About An "Incognito" Player Status?

Why don't they just disable the chat?

Seems to be the answer when it comes to PvP.

This has nothing to do with the thread and while I appreciate that this is a problem, this is clear bait (either intentionally or unintentionally) to change the topic to PvP chat.

Cant be to bad then since the game is fine.

In your opinion, however, I know for a fact that complaints about the limitations of the busy status are as old as the game itself

You're right that it's off topic, and I do apologize for that. Wasn't an attempt to bait and switch, no, but as the topic does involve player communication to a degree, it was worth saying so that it's seen and noted.

On topic, I rather think it's a good idea. While for different reasons, I would love to be incognito at times when I maybe don't have much time to play and would like to just log on, get things done, then log out. Nothing against my friends at all of course, but being a very sociable person has its own complications at times.

So ideally, it should be a status you can set just prior to logging in, so that it could both keep you out of Player Search, and prevent FC member login notification.

That would probably have to be in the FC section of options rather than a player status I think.

Not to speak of old times but, XI had this within POL (Playonline). We could set our status to online, busy, or invisible. Since FFXIV doesn't have a system setup like XI did, logging in without being noticed may be hard. Only place I could see them doing this is maybe somewhere in the character login screen but, it may take some work on their part and since it not something that "needed", it won't be on the top of the to-do list.

On that note, this is something I think every online game should offer, but especially FFXIV. Unless there's a far easier method I'm not aware of, changing your status isn't as simple as clicking one or two buttons. And a little off topic, but we should be able to set which chat channel we want as our primary one. Always have to change to my FC chat when I get online.

What prevents you from logging in > doing stuff then just log out? Right nothing you can just do that. Dunno where the problem is tbh. Also I wouldnt really like to not know who is on in my own fc. If your friends cant accept that u just wanted to log in and get some stuff done then perhaps your friends are the problem.

Ironically, this was the original intended purpose for the /busy status. To tell your friends, "Sorry, although I'd usually be more than willing to help out or chat, etc., right now I don't have time, so don't bother me."

Unfortunately, after such a long time without any other relief from RMT spam (as it took years to even get right-click report added), /busy has for so long been used mainly for hiding from RMT spam, that now it's original meaning is largely ignored. If a friend or FC member sees you're set to /busy, they're not going to assume that means you're busy and don't want to be bothered right now. They'll just assume you got too fed up with RMT, and that since they're not RMT it wouldn't apply to them (because most of the time, that assumption would be right).
