SE has said that once version 2.0 hits, those of us with existing characters will have the option to completely re-customize our race, gender, and appearance.

The new graphics engine will cause certain objects to display differently than they do in the current version.
Because of this, we will allow all current players the opportunity to re-customize the race, gender, and appearance of their characters upon the implementation of the new engine.

When this happens, I plan to change my current female Miqo'te into a male one. However, given that my current character name, Rhianu, is explicitly female, I want to be able to change my character's name to something more masculine to match the new gender.

Also, I want to get rid of my character's surname. Surnames make the character name too long. One name only, please!

your name is part of the characater customization process. Especially given changing your race potentially means a change in gender, it's safe to assume you'll be able to change it.

I would assume you can change the name, it would make no sense if they didn't let you.

Yea it would be kind of dumb to have a girls name on a guy character or the other way around. I would hope we get to change names too, even though it doesn't list name changes.

As I suggested in another thread, perhaps we could have our old name above out new name, but kind of greyed out just for a month or two, so people won't worry about name-changers taking advantage of a new name in a negative way.

It makes little sense to me either, but it has been brought up. XD
I suppose an example would be.. one person taking advantage of or cheating a LS in some way, changing their name so no one knows them, and being able to do it again.
It sounds unlikely to happen, to me.. but I suppose it's possible. So if it would ease people's minds if our old name was shown for a while, I'd gladly accept the annoyance for a while if it meant we got our name changes. :3
