Is it me or is the Bard a disappointment ?
Why would I want to play as a Bard when the Archer is so much better.
I must be missing something.

How is it a disappointment?
It wasn't what you expected it to be?
"BAAAAAARD!" - 2018
I have lost so many skills and gained very little unless in a group.
Do I need to play as a Bard to level this class or does it just run with my Archer level ?
You don't actually lose any skills apart from a few cross class skills (skills from other classes). You might need to check your Action tab since they can disappear of your hotbars when you change.
BRD is basically Archer with extra skills. Think of Jobs and an upgraded level on existing classes. Its worth noting you will get quite a lot of new skills while lvling. After 50 the only new skills you get are all BRD ones.

Bards and Machinist stealing Limit Breaks (Lv.3) are a disappointment, because they are the weakest DPS in the game!...
Now if you like Archer's cross-skills better than Bard's then you might be shocked to find out the former's usefulness becomes largely unnecessary in the late game and that the latter ends up being way better and much stronger!...
Rumors tell Square Enix is planning to get rid of Classes for once so bad luck for those of us whom had hopes they would be improved eventually!...
Maybe I will get used to it but it does not seem to be a natural progression from an Archer.
For example Galdiator to Paladin makes sense as do a lot of others ..... but not the Bard.
wait till you get wanderer's minuet
I'm guessing you filled your bar up with cross-class skills and they've all disappeared. Which happens for every job (if you use skills that aren't for the job. Classes can use any cross-class skills, Jobs are limited to two other classes' skills).
If not, I don't know how you lost skills; your hotbar will change from your ARC bars to BRD bars, so go to your Actions and Traits menu and add them back?
Thanks that helps me a lot guys and gals.
Do you mean story/lore wise, gameplay wise or something else?
Effectively gameplay wise Bard is basically an archer with a few extra support skills.
Lore wise it actually makes quite a bit of sense and I can explain it if you want.
